San francisco hotels
I have the exact same rate for The Donatello and The Sanford Court Marriott. I can't decide which to keep. Has anyone been to both? I am fit so the hill wouldn't bother me.

The Stanford Court is way up on Nob Hill. It's one of the better neighborhoods of San Francisco, but it is way up there. Even if the hill doesn't bother you (I've climbed it once in awhile), you need to think of the time involved in going up and down. Lots more time is needed to go up. It's not as if you were climbing in the great outdoors, here your feet have to negotiated being on flat concrete going up an extemely steep hillside.
Two, the Stanford Court has traditionally had bad wifi reception. If this is important to you, you might want to consider. It's very quiet up there on Nob Hill - between about 11pm and 6am. During other times you have to deal with the noise of the cable cars on California Street. If you get a quieter room in the back, the view may not be as nice. Six of one, half a dozen of the other. The Donatello is very close to Union Square which is pretty much like the "social and shopping center" of San Francisco. It is also close to the theater district, some very good restaurants, and the means of transportation to other parts of the city would be nearer. The hill from Union Square to the Donatello is very manageable. For a big city, they both have fairly large room (are you bringing much luggage?). The service is very good in both hotels (since they are both at the high end of hotels), probably a bit nicer at the Stanford Court but friendly at the Donatello. Does this make sense? It all depends on what you are looking for. If you want a quiet retreat for the weekend with nice service but not much other activity, then the Stanford Court would be perfect. If you want to have a more active and livlier weekend, then the Donatello is well-situated. Hope this helps a bit. |
Thanks, i think that was helpful. I will probably let the stanford court reservation go.

Thank you, sf7307.
sammy: glad you were able to make a choice. Enjoy San Francisco! Be sure to bring layered clothing as you could be wearing a t-shirt at noon and a sweater/jacket at night to protect against the chill. (Oh, one more small point: if you're in the Donatello, don't go west of the hotel. That's the Tenderloin and it's not a very savory area.) |
