san francisco - hotels

We will going to San Francisco in June with our 14yr old children. Which hotel would be better, St.Francis Westin or the Prescott(suite on Club Level)?

I personally love the Westin St. Francis. It's well-located, historic, and offers good service. The Prescott is nice as well, but was a much better deal when it first opened as tried to position itself as an "upscale value" property.

Agree with St. Francis suggestion, but some would say it's noisy because of the cable cars and they don't like the number of homeless people in Union Square. For me, the St. Francis is San Francisco.

I just returned from a trip to SF. We stayed at the Prescott because it was highly rated in both the Fodor's and Frommer's travel guides. I was terribly disappointed. The rooms and bathrooms were small. I had requested a nonsmoking room but was apparently given a smoking room that had a strong urine smell as well as cigarette smoke. My view was of three brick walls. There was only one electrical outlet in the room and I had to iron my clothes in the bathroom. One of the reading lamps did not work. When you were watching TV, which was located in an armoire, you couldn't get into the bathroom without closing the armoire. The shower head was placed extremely low for a short person, but was terrible inconvenient for my husband who is 6'3". When I requested to change rooms, the clerk was rude, but my luggage was moved immediately. I cannot imagine why the reviewers thought this was a great hotel. San Francisco is a beautiful city and I had a wonderful time, however, I would recommend choosing a different hotel in Union Square.

Diane, Sorry I would have recommended the St. Francis! Even if it has some short comings, it's got a lot of history behind it. I don't quite know where the Prescott came from in SF.

Diane, <BR>I'm sorry you had such an awful experience at the Prescott. My husband and I have reservations for next week. I'm really concerned after reading your post. Was your room by chance on the club level? Did you enjoy anything about the hotel?
