Denise, I live in SF, but I've never stayed at the hotel you've chosen. Can I answer any other questions for you? The neighborhood is an interesting mix: Just east are all the big-name shopping around Union Square, restaurants, and some great theaters. Just west is the Tenderloin, the neighborhood with a reputation: many poor people, some drug users, many panhandlers. Of course, panhandlers target the hotel areas to find tourists with "extra" money.

I've never felt unsafe in my city--and I've never been a victim of any kind of crime--but you might feel a little uncomfortable if you're out walking late at night.

One of my favorite restaurants in the entire world is very near your hotel. If you love seafood, see whether the prices at Farallon fit your budget. The food, wine, service, and decor are all top-notch.

Post again if I can help in any way. (I'm sorry I don't know specifics about the hotel.) When are you coming?

Kris

Dear Kris,
We chose the Beresford Arms Hotel because I read in a few traveling books
thatit is a 3 star in AAA & we are paying $149 for a Jr Suite.
I really wanted to stay at the Kensington Park but they wanted $189. a night plus parking. But if it's really worth it, I would change plans.
What do you think of the Kensington & if you have other suggestions, it would
be quite helpful.
Last year we enjoyed the shops on Filmore St.& the area was quite nice.Did
you ever here about the Queen Anne Hotel? Is that near the area?
Hope to here from you soon.
Thanks again,
Denise

Sorry to butt in but I read, Kris, that you are a SF resident. I wonder if you would be kind enough to search for my post titled

Kavey requests San Francisco, Napa and Sonoma advice...

and add any advice you may have to my questions?

Many thanks
Kavey

The Queen Anne is beautiful http://www.queenanne.com. I have had family stay there. It is nowhere near downtown, however (ok, a 10 minute bus ride will get you downtown). But you mention that you enjoyed the Fillmore area, so you would be close to that. It will be much quieter than anything you can find downtown. It is in the residential part of town instead of the shopping. I really like it.

Dear Sharon,
Thanks for the info. I will check it out. I just hope it's not too expensive.
Denise

Denise
My wife stayed at the Beresford in a regular room couple of years ago and found it to be quite nice. It is a very European type of hotel, which is what we like best. Our room was not large, not small, but cozy. Had a nice bathroom and good bed, adequate closet space. Overall the hotel strongly reminded me of a small hotel in England. There is a pretty athentic English Pub attached to the hotel where the breakfast is served and then it is open for drinks and food at lunch and in the evenings. It is a nice pub and like I said very authentic in its decor and beer selections. The location of the hotel is quite good as well, just a couple of block from Union Square. I think you will like it, but I can not comment on the Jr. Suites.
