San Francisco Hotel With Car

We have to be in the San Francisco area for three days and will have our car. I am looking into the Lombard Inn or one of their sister properties since they offer free parking. We do not want to use our car while in the city so I am wondering which of the properties is in the best location for seeing the main sights. We can bring our bikes too if that would help. This will be in July.

The only property available for our dates was Chelsea Inn so I booked that. Hope the location and hotel is good. Any recommendations for dinner in the area?

The location is fine, and there are many restaurants to choose from on Chestnut Street. For a more casual experience, we like the Tipsy Pig.

Some years ago I stayed (with car) at The Columbus Motor Inn, and happened to be a great choice.
It is, was at the time, very reasonably priced and location was very goosd, with rooms Ok for SF.

I do not know the Lombard Motor Inn, but is from the same owners.

Just to add to my previous comment.
Rooms were a bit "tired" and smallish, but at least mine was OK

Thanks everyone. I'm sure we'll be fine at Chelsea. The search function here is awful now so I couldn't find StuDudley's amazing San Francisco post, but I Googled and it came right up. Attaching a link in case anyone going to SF hasn't seen it. It is truly an amazing thread.

I also found a pretty recent website describing Marina restaurants.

We went to Blackwood, in the Marina, for brunch a few weeks ago. Excellent and plenty to share. Get there by 10 for no waiting.

Blackwood looks perfect...love Asian fusion. Happy Hour looks really good too. Thanks for the recommendation!

The Chelsea Inn is fine. Great location. We'll be at the Cow Hollow in late July, but we've stayed in all of their properties at one time or another.

Dining or even breakfast options are spectacular. Either Chestnut Street or on Union. Something new is always cropping up.

We took bikes twice, and used them along Marina/Old Mason to and from Crissy Field. Good ride. Flat.

The route 30 bus on Chestnut takes you to Fisherman's Wharf, then up Columbus to North Beach, then over to Union Square. We also use the 22 on Fillmore St to take us to the Fillmore concert hall, lower Haight and the Castro.

Great info, Surfergirl, thank you!

We've stayed at The Coventry, Chelsea and Columbus and have loved all 3. Good bang for your buck esp the free parking and locations.

Love Tipsy Pit but a bit LOUD.
A16 was still good as of our last meal there late last year.
We love the "still under the radar" Brazenhead.

Also liked Balboa Cafe and Rose's Cafe for breakfasts.

One thing we have done several times now is get a GREAT deli sandwich at Lucca's Deli on Chestnut near Steiner then walk or bike over to Crissy Field for a picnic. Really can't beat that scenery.

Thank you, Kal!
