San Francisco Hotel Tax

I know that the hotel/tourism tax is ~15% in San Francisco. Is there also a California sales tax that will also be added to hotel bills? What is the rate for that?

Thanks!

This is what a room at the Hilton says:

Rules & Restrictions
Taxes
16.08 % per room per night

and Hyatt:
Additional Fees & Taxes
occupancy tax
43.26 USD
tourism dst asmt
4.63 USD
ca tourism fee
0.13 USD
moscone dst asmt
1.54 USD

(which equals 16.08% of the room I choose)

Websites often let you choose a room and then see the details of the price which shows a percentage or a breakdown of taxes.

IN SAn Francisco 16% is the total tax for hotel rooms. Some cities have both a sales and hotel tax, but any hotel should be quoting you the total or I wouldn't stay there if they won't disclose the bottom line. It's just called the hotel tax, it isn't for tourists per se, but for anyone staying in a hotel even if they are a local resident.
