san francisco hotel on a budget
 

My partner and I are going to san Fran for 2 nights , december 5-7th. We stayed at the Monaco last year and loved it!!! Right now they have prices much higher then last year. I think we paid 120 a night..now it's 270. I was thinking of trying priceline.com, but then you really don't know what you are getting right??/ Any tips of getting a good rate somewhere? Thnaks guys

Use a website like www.betterbidding.com to do a bit of research to see which hotels are in which area and what Priceline bids were accepted. Then you can bid on Priceline with some idea of what you are going to get.

Having said that I prefer Hotwire. No bidding hassle, a pretty good idea of what hotel you are going to end up with (using betterbidding and tripadvisor reviews) and a very good price. Maybe not quite as low as Priceline but a lot less hassle IMO.

I used hotels.com a couple of years ago and stayed at the Adante Hotel, which is not far from Union Square and LOVED it. The room was comfortable and nicel appointed, and good size bathroom. They also have suites available that are bigger and still well priced.

There's coffee all the time in the lobby and muffins/cereal/fruit and coffee/tea/juice included with your room rate.

I think I paid less than $100nt.

Give Hotwire.com a go, you can also use www.betterbidding.com for your research, I just plugged in your dates and its coming back with around $110 - 120 + taxes per night for a 4 star in Fisherman's Wharf etc

Try Travelzoo, they always have a list of SF hotels with discount offers --also-While not in the same league as the Manaco, Lombard Motor Inn oofers free convenient parking, good location, & a clean room for less than $100/nt

Check out the jvdhotels.com web page. This is a SF chain of small 3* hotels that often runs specials. We stayed at the Kabuki in Japantown several times - very nice hotel.
