As others have said the Best Western Americania is in a terrible location, the Miyako and Fairmont are not within walking distance. Hotels near Union Square are, with a walk of 4 to 6 blocks, but the hotels on or around Market Street would be most convenient for your husband and you would be close to public transportation.

I work in an office building between the Mosser and the Palomar, across the street from the Marriott. I would guess, based on what I've seen through the windows, that the rooms in the Mosser are miniscule. If you're getting it for $75/nt, keep in mind that it's likely to have that 1- or 2-star Paris hotel vibe and might be a bit dumpy.
The Marriott has that generic Marriott feeling but the location is good. Sometimes I go over there for a drink when I want to feel like I'm not in San Francisco. It has that could-be-anywhere ambience.
I like the Palace. I stayed there many years ago, and friends stayed with their kids last year. I visited them in their room and it was fine. The hotel itself has an old-timey, grand hotel vibe. Nice place to get a drink. Pool (Marriott has a pool, too.)
The Palomar is nice enough, in a convenient location, with a good restaurant. It's dark and 4th and Market isn't exactly glamorous (I should know, I'm there every day!), but would suit your needs fine and is not a dump.
I'd choose the W; I like Ws and how dark they are because I can always get a good night's sleep.

The convention center area has a large homeless population and you need to take care when walking. I wouldn't recommend pedestrian journeys early in the morning or after dark. Once rush hour begins til after working hours you are as safe as anywhere in SFO.

I like the Galleria Park hotel. It's rooms are small but not badly so, and it's a cute boutique hotel. I believe you can also get a loaner pet goldfish during your stay. Now there's a useful thing!

These have all been great suggestions; thank you all.
I have to wait until October to get the booking code to try to get most of the places you folks are suggesting, but I will sure check out the hotels you are recommending.

There you go, Debi! How can you pass up a loaner goldfish?
Seriously, don't do the Mosser. You can get much better hotels in SF for just a bit more. If you don't know how to do Priceline, I'll be glad to help.
