San Francisco hotel: Maxwell vs. Westin St. Francis
We are staying in San Francisco for two nights in October (Thur and Fri). We are tossed between the rooms we have at the Maxwell and upgrading to the Westin St. Francis. It's approximately $40.00 more per night, but I hear the Westin is worth it. Any help is appreciated, as well as recomendations on getting the best rates. Thank you.
The St. Francis is one of the classic hotels of the world. So, why not?

Sorry, but I don't know the Maxwell, so can't really compare.

bAK
Rob, I certainly would pop for the old St. Francis. It's classic SF. The Maxwell is located nearby but just doesn't quite make it. Have tea in the lobby of the St. Francis--it's a treat. Good restaurants within an easy walk and cable car is right there.

the westin wins hands down, besides the cable car stops right out the front door. the flowers in the westins lobby are worth the 40 bucks alone!
have fun!

I haven't stayed at the Maxwell but I had a absolutely terrible experience at the Westin St. Francis a few years ago. They agreed to honour a special pricing deal through my airline but when I arrived and checked in they changed their tune and refused to honour the price! I asked to met with the Front Desk Manager who told me it was my problem and that I couldn't possibly expect the Westin to make good on my misunderstanding.

I actually received a letter of apology from the President of Westin but it was too late. They ruined my 30th birthday weekend with their lousy attitude. Go to the Ritz if you want to be treated like a valued guest!

Don't forget to check out the Hotel Monaco. Beautiful, great location, less than the westin and WINE TASTING from 5-7pm daily!
