San Francisco Hotel-Marriot or Hilton
I have 2 choices of hotels:
San Francisco Marriot or the San Francisco Hilton. Both about same price, booked Sight and Sound Room at the Hilton, and Standard room at Marriott. Which is better for bed comfort/room attractiveness, location? Thanks.. |
Don't know what a "sight and sound" room is at the Hilton, but the rooms I have stayed in there (conferences) have been tiny and always in a looooong hall. On the other hand, their concierge was great at getting restaurant reservations at hard-to-get places.
Have not stayed at the Marriott, but its location on Union Square would be an attraction for me. |
The San Francisco Marriott or the JW Marriott? The latter is on Union Square, the former is between Market and Mission Street at 4th street (a few blocks from Union Square, but in the middle of a very "active" neighborhood itself). Both are very good central locations. Personally, I just like Marriotts better than Hiltons. The Hilton is on the edge (in one direction) of a not-so-good neighborhood.
|
If this is a vacation then the Marriott, no question. The Hilton is fine for business meetings or in transit for a short stay, but not a hotel I would choose otherwise, especially for leisure.
I tend to agree with dmlove about liking Marriott's over Hilton's in general. Both are centrally located to the Union Square area. |
We stayed at The Mosser in SF. It is across the street from the Marriott. A great location!
I like Marriott's heavenly beds. They also tend to have all white bed linens and duvets etc, which I like and they have nice bathroom soaps/shampoos etc. I would go with Marriott. Deb |
The Hilton is just a convention hotel, nothing more. Choose the Marriot.
|
In this particular city, I would say the Marriot(s) are better choices if you have a choice. The Hilton is not right in the Tenderloin (not desirable neighborhood) but very close to it. The JW Marriot is only a few blocks from the Hilton, but a few blocks in the better direction. The other one is in an bustling location, as dmlove pointed out. Either would be good for shopping and public transportation.

Which Hilton? We stayed at the one in the Financial district (edge of Chinatown) and thought it was lovely.
|
There's a Hilton in the Financial District? Is that formerly the Holiday Inn? (I work in the financial district LOL!)
|
We stayed at the Marriott by Mascone Center and reallly liked it. Got it for $90 in Priceline and they upgraded us to a suite. Terrific location, especially for SFMOMA and Ferry Building.
|
We got the Hilton Financial Distr/Chinatown (and yes, formally the HI) on Priceline for under $100 last year.
Schmoozed the check in gal and got a GREAT northern view. Coit Tower, Alcatraz, NoBeach etc. |
The Hilton is at 333 O'Farrell St and the Marriott is at 55 4th St.
I'm leaning more towards the Marriott because they have a better points earning program than Hilton. |
Live in the SF Bay Area so never stayed at either but like the location of the Marriott better. Had drink there once and the view from the bar is really cool.
|
Ditto b_fitz on location thought but for bars Cityscapes on top of the Hilton is pretty nice too.
|
Thanks ALL for the replys. Going with the Marriott, but of course if I can find something BETTER for $200 a nite.... but not having much luck. All the NICER hotels are about $300+ per night.
|
Skip the Hilton- TINY rooms - two people can barely fit much less some luggage! too big and impersonal too IMHO.
|
There's also a Marriott at Fisherman's Wharf. I vote for any of the Marriotts.
|
Try The Omni?
California/Montgomery. Got it on P'line once around $100-125. Anybody know what the Park Hyatt is now? |
I think the PARK HYATT is now the Le Meridien. Anyone stay at the Le Meridien lately? Good location?
|
We stayed there when it was the PH.
Also have stayed across the street at Club Quarters. Quiet area esp on the weekends. Short walk to The Ferry Bldg. Union Sq walk a bit longer. NoBeach too. Some nice restaurants around it too. |
