San Francisco Hotel

Decisions, decisions....I've decided against the Four Seasons, Union Square and Nob Hill hotels, amongst others, for a future three-night stay for our family of four. I've narrowed it down to a club for suite at the Ritz or the penthouse suite at The Vitale. Any thoughts? We love the service and elegance of the Ritz but the views of the Vitale are very alluring.

The Ritz is on Nob Hill.

We enjoyed our stay at the Vitale this past summer. Great location and the views are wonderful.

I haven't stayed at the Vitale, but I have stayed at the Ritz and it is one of my favorite hotels. The atmosphere and service are great, and the rooms were excellent. Personally, I usually don't spend that much time in the room, and when I am in the room it is usually dark, so while views are nice, I don't rank them that high. Again, can't speak about the Vitale, but I find it hard to beat the SF Ritz.

Saps - Thanks...how was the service and the general atmosphere of The Vitale? What did you think of your room service meals (if you had any)?

By the way, when I think of Nob Hill, I think of the top. Can't help it....

The atmosphere of the Vitale was 'zen' like...or at least that was their intent. It was very nicely decorated and all the furniture was very comfortable. The service was fine (we didn't have issues).

The room service menu seemed a bit limited to me...we ordered coffee service in the morning and thought it was great.

The bathrooms are different (as I'm sure you have seen on the website). We had a spa shower with rain forest head and while it was kind of cool I probably would not choose one in the future. My wife loved their bath products and they actually sell some right there on the shelf (like a mini-bar).

I've been to the hotel restaurant, Americana, several times and really like the food and atmosphere. You can sit outside during nice weather and enjoy the view of the Bay Bridge.

It is right across the street from the Ferry Building which makes for a nice relaxing morning...on Saturday's they have a farmer's market.

I've never stayed at the Ritz but been in it several times and it seems lovely.

almesq - thank you, thank you for your thoughtful reply. Your thoughts confirmed mine.

Saps - you have given me much room for thought. Time for me to ponder it all one more day and then reserve.
