San Francisco Guidebook
 

Planning a trip to SF this summer. Are there any guidebooks that you would recommend over any other?

It's interesting that you should ask that question since I just picked up the Fodor's 2008 San Francisco guidebook yesterday! I took several guidebooks out of our public library & perused them back in December. Then, I've made several trips to Books A Million (better selection of travel books than Barnes & Noble) & spent several hours enjoying their wide selection. Some of the guides had great photos; one previous post liked the Lonely Planet guide or Moon Handbooks.

I've gotten so many great recommendations on this forum & Trip Advisor, but I still like to have a hard copy of something to look through & take with me. Fodors is an overall great guidebook & has a nice section on the Wine Country. Good luck & have a great trip!

I picked this one up at the library and its got a lot of great information. Not sure I"ll be following his tours exactly, but am definately incorporating some of the info.

We used the Access Guide to San Francisco - it was an older version, but it was still really good.

go to a AAA office, they have free books for all US states & many cities, also Mexico. Personally, I think you can't go wrong with Eyewitness Books (publisher DK). I got mine on amazon.com. Eyewitness Top 10 San Fran and Eyewitness Travel San Fran & Northern Calif. I always get Eyewitness books when I go anywhere. They have great info, easy to read, lots of pictures and descriptions of all sights, hotel, maps, bars, restaurants, museums, shopping, festivals, parks and much more.

My books have little stick on colored tabs throughout, marking all the things to see/do, as well as thoroughly marked with highlighter pen.

Thanks so much for this post. I have two favorite book markers that I've had for years and have not been able to find them for a long time. Thanks to this, when I went to get my SF books to make sure I had the titles correct, there I found my two bookmarkers! Which means I've looked for them since Aug. 2006, that's when I went to SF!! :-)

Hello Danimal, type our Fodorite Stu Dudley in the search engine. He is a native of SF and has so many good threads regarding SF. And the Fodor's SF guide book is good for getting acquainted with SF.

Another vote for Fodors SF guidebook, and not just because I'm a Fodorite--really, it's excellent!

Hands down ACCESS SF. We have used the entire series for our travels and they are extremely helpful. They guide you street by street and address by address. Good luck!

Anyone know if Fodor's has a guide book for Atlanta?
