San Francisco Giant's Victory Parade

We live about 30 miles south of SF, and are thinking about spending the night (tonight) in the city along the parade route in order to celebrate the team's awesome win (tomorrow: parade starts at 11)!

I love historical hotels, so called the Hotel Whitcomb on Market, but they cannot guarantee any room with a view, and they are 2 blocks off the parade route (which I don't quite get since they are on Market).

Any advice, SF insiders? More trouble than it is worth? Once in a life time must-do?

I will have to be back home by 3:30 for a meeting, to throw that into the mix.

my daughters whole office is taking the Bart in for the parade - I think it will be madness but also a once in a lifetime event.

I think there will be so many people there I am not sure you will be able to see anything unless you are in a room with a view -

I don't have a suggestion, but I do know why they're not on the parade route -- the parade will turn off of Market Street at McAlister, which is about 2 blocks east of the Whitcomb.

The Palace is at Market and Montgomery.

I'm going to be in court tomorrow morning and I doubt I will be able to get out of the Civic Center after my hearing, so I figure I might as well join in the celebration.

Thanks for your help! I checked out the Palace, the rooms that were available were $695.

We might take the train up tomorrow, or we might decide to experience it through tv or webcasts.

I hope everyone who goes has a wonderful time!

Do they have a roof at Whitcomb :) It's crazy here! Are you watching on TV?

Kailani Nov 3rd, 2010 12:14 PM

Yes, I'm watching on TV from home!

We were worried that the Giants wouldn't have enough of a crowd to cheer them on, but it looks like the City fans did great without us.

I've never been to the Whitcomb or even seen it. It looks beautiful in photos, but reviews are sketchy.

I'll try it on a calmer day. Apparently you can get tours of the jail in the basement, and it's supposedly haunted.

I was there, at the corner of Montgomery & Clay, at the Transamerica Pyramid. So cool. I'll list the people I saw (I was on tippy-toes the whole time ---- I'm a little height-challenged!).

Willie Mays
Willie McCovey
Dianne Feinstein
Bill Neukom
Brian Sabean
Larry Baer (getting chants of Lar-ry, Lar-ry)
Gavin Newsom
Peter Magowan (I though it was cool they invited him)
Ashkon
FP Santangelo
Kruk and Kuip, Jon Miller and Dave Fleming
Bruce Bochy (and the World Series trophy)
Former players - Jeffrey Leonard, Shawan Dunston, Rich Aurilia, Mark Gardner, others
Players - Cody Ross, Freddy Sanchez, Madison Bumgarner, Barry Zito, Tim Lincecum, Matt Cain, Aaron Rowand, Pablo Sandoval, Andres Torres. Didn't get a great view of Aubrey Huff, Juan Uribe, Nate Schierholtz, Jonathan Sanchez, Darren Ford. Who am I missing?

Anyway, it was great to be part of it :-)

I'm not getting a d**n thing done today! I went to the parade, and now I'm watching the whole thing live online at Civic Center. Oh well, I'll stay late.

Theres probably nothing getting done in SF today by anybody...and rightfully so.

I haven't done anything except to look for flights to San Diego for Sunday...

LOL sf, today everybody is quiet, working hard, as nobody had anything done yesterday!

They still have balloons and banners hanging over Montgomery.
