San Francisco first trip
 

going in mid april for two weeks.. any suggestions..is Nappa valley a must? Need restaurant suggestions. from S.F. were driving to L.A. need much advice. What will a 14 year old like? help....delow

Hi Delores My husband and I are going to San Francisco late September. It will be our first time too. Would like to hear your recommendations for restaurants and things you did and saw. Thanks.

Dear Linda, I would be glad to inform you and make any recommendations on SF when I return. We are staying there 4 days then taking the Parlor Car tour down the coast. I've heard so much positive feedback on it.. My wife and I had a wonderful time staying at Washington Square Inn last spring. Beautiful little inn with a European air to it. Within walking distance of buses, cable car route, and loads of fantastic restaurants. We used the great bus system to get around, then walked and rented bicycles to explore. In 4 days we barely scratched the surface of downtown SF and were too busy to miss seeing any outlying areas. (We'll have to go back for those.)
Just another opinion...
By the way, please avoid making reservations at Albion House Inn on Gough Street. They have treated us very badly and I wish to spread the word about them.

I would recommend Scoma's on Fisherman's Warf.
You would need reservations about a week in advance. If you can't get in, try Scoma's in Saucalido. It is on the other side of the Golden Gate bridge. If you are lucky, the fog will not roll in that evening and you will get a great view. In any event, I have been to San Francisco and the sorounding area many times. It is hard to find a mediocre restaurant, let alone a bad one.

Am going in July. Have heard that theYMCA downtown is clean, safe, and only $28 per nite. Any suggestions?

San Fran. is great. We stayed at the Fairmont.
It was nice. There is lots to do that a
14 would enjoy. Napa could be dull
considering the big thing is
wine tasting and 14 is not legal.
I'd skip it this time.

Two weeks in SF is too long. If you like to golf and drink wine then go to Napa for a few days. Silverado Resort is excellent. The town of Calistoga is fun for the kids, hot spring pools, mud baths, geyser. If you prefer nature, then head south to Monterey. Still great golfing, aquariums, shopping and art galleries in Carmel.
