San Francisco - Dinner on a Sunday night
Any new places to suggest [or maybe an old favorite] that we might head to soon? All suggestions welcomed.
And yes, we are coming soon, so get out the umbrellas. We will do our part to end the drought. |
Rain forecasted to start tonight!!!!
Chez Nico is our current favorite restaurant. We've dined there twice. Our first experience was immediately after our June trip to France, and I thought that the meal at Nico was just as good as the 1 star restaurants we dined at while in the Cote d'Azur & Provence. Unfortunately, it was just re-reviewed my the Chron restaurant critic, and he gave it 3 1/2 stars out of a possible 4 stars (I think there are only 5-8 4-star restaurants in SF.) Unfortunately, it is not open on Sunday. http://nicosf.com/ Stu Dudley |
Here is a really new restaurant - it just opened this week.
Mourad http://www.sfgate.com/food/article/M...th-5948018.php And it seems to be open on Sundays. It is actually an "old favorite" of ours too. The chef/owner (Mourad Lahlou) also owns Aziza in the Richmond district - way-out on Geary. We've dined there 10-15 times in the past 15 years or so. Aziza is a Michelin 1 star. The food is Moroccan/Calif. His new restaurant is in an old telephone building that is quite famous for it's architecture. The restaurant is just down the street from the Palace Hotel on New Montgomery. We have reservations there for March 3. Stu Dudley |
I can't find a website! Is the restaurant called Mourad?
|
Found it on opentable. Late reservations all that's left. I'll see if that works for our dining companions.
|
Yep - no web site yet.

We're dining at Contigo this Saturday Stu Dudley |
Plouf is open on Sunday, and if you like mussels, you'll like the restaurant. It's on Belden Place, a cute little street that feels as though you're in France.
|
Thanks. We ate at Plouf last year; meh. We've been spoiled by spending so much time in France.
May just do something a bit casual as we'll have eaten at Chez Panisse the night before. |
Here's the website for Lahlou's new restaurant on New Montgomery:
http://www.mouradsf.com/ If you get a chance, check out the ceiling in the lobby of the main building (not the restaurant.) When that old AT&T building was built in 1926, it was the tallest building in SF. It now houses the Yelp offices and other tech startups, among other things. |
In n Out at Fish/Wharf? :O)
|
BINGO!
|
Just heard "Hizzoner Da Mayor" Willie Brown on Ronn Owens radio
show and they both RAVED about Mourad. |
For a place very close to the Monaco Hotel, we have liked Fino:

Oh...and Willie mentioned about eating at 1300 Fillmore again. One of our faves.
