San Francisco - Dine About Town

The City's "Dine About Town" program runs from June 1 to June 15 this year. Over 100 restaurants will be participating, offering 3 course lunches for $21.95 and/or fixed price dinners for $31.95.

This is a real bargain - we dined at 4 different restaurants when they had this program in February.

Thank you, nice to know!

Topping for locals and visitors.

Thanks Stu - I had no idea that a mid-year repeat of DAT was happening.

Have you been to any of these yet?

Chouquet's

La Provence

Laiola

StuDudley Apr 24th, 2008 10:09 AM

La Provence twice. We've spent 32 weeks vacationing in Provence (France) - so we have kinda "refined" Provence palates. Although Provencal cooking is not my favorite French food - La Provence in the Mission is pretty good. Very congenial owner.

Laiola is always crowded when we walk by and the menu looks excellent. We may try that one for DAT.

Thanks for sharing Stu. I live in San Jose and enjoy coming up to the city for the great dining options.

BarbaraJ May 13th, 2008 07:46 AM

Thanks Stu! We'll be there the June 11-13 so we can take advantage of this.

Between all your advice and driving tours we used for our Italy trip last year and now all the advice for our California trip, it's like having a personal travel agent!

easytraveler May 13th, 2008 11:21 AM

Great suggestion, Stu!

I want to try One Market and 1550 Hyde this time.

Any others you'd care to suggest? Maybe another 2-3 more. (Actually, anyone can suggest here. Last time dovima suggested fringale's and it was terrific!)

That's a great list of restaurants! Thanks for sharing!

StuDudley May 13th, 2008 12:23 PM

During the Feb DAT we dined at One Market, Butterfly, Baraka, and the Vietnamese restaurant on Balboa that is supposed to be the "new Slanted Door" (don't agree). Only Baraka is on the program in June. It was OK.

When selecting a restaurant, make sure that the specific menu on the web site is something that interests you - not just the same-old/same-old.

Several of my favorites in the program this year:
Aziza - Moroccan/Calif highly recommended
Bushi-tei - French - excellent.
La Provence
RNM - excellent

Other notables:
Circa - we love the bar food here
Foreign Cimema - others like this better than we do
Azie - pretty good
Cortez - OK - too much noise

Places we might try on DAT:
Cote Sud - menu looks good
Circol - Asian
Garcon - French
Poleng Lounge - Asian
Ponzu - menu was not posed last time I looked
Supperclub
Rue St Jacques
Sauce
Laiola

Hi, Stu
I am one of the huge Foreign Cinema fans. My daughters and I still rate it near the top of our faves.

We made the cover of the chron real estate section on Mother's Day - just fyi.

Yep - there you are with your two (very attractive) daughters. Good story.

Hi Stu

I didn't like Garcon very much. I ordered something with mussels and the majority of them looked shrivel-y. And if you've dined at Plouf as much as I think you have, you know the pleasure of a cauldron full of really succulent plump bivalves.

StuDudley May 13th, 2008 02:49 PM

Thanks dovima. I'm a big mussel lover - but we spend a lot of time in France and I get my fill of them there. The Bouchot mussels from Brittany are divine. I usually cook 2-3 "batches" of them each year in France. I had them at Plouf & they weren't as good as the ones I've had in France, but better than most in the US. I had some pretty "weak" ones at Foreign Cinima - hense my not-so-great opinion of Foreign Cinema. The noise was so loud at FC that I couldn't hear my wife talk.

I'll scratch Garcon from the list. Hey - this is a great way to whittle down the choices.

These are great suggestions! Thanks a whole bunch! :)

One Market is on this June's list, tho. We'll probably try and get there early on during the DAT days.

Thanks again!

cabovacation -- so that was you and your girls, Congratulations, proud mom!

StuDudley May 13th, 2008 04:14 PM

>>One Market is on this June's list, tho<<

That's odd. On the home page if you select only restaurants serving dinner, One Market is not on the list. If you select lunch or dinner, it comes up. If you then click on "One Market", the detail says it serves dinner for DAT. Must be a glitch.
