San Francisco Citypass on Golden Gate
I am leading a crew of high school students from Canada on a school trip to San Francisco in April 2009. We are using the SF CityPass, and either walking or taking public transit everywhere in the city. Can we use transit to travel by bus across the Golden Gate Bridge? If not, is there a reasonably direct way of getting from Golden Gate Park on the MUNI to the parking area at the entry to the Golden Gate Bridge to allow us to walk across the bridge? My transit511.org inquiries have not been useful thus far.

The only MUNI bus that goes OVER the bridge is line #76 running on Sunday and holidays only, once an hour, from Caltrain station on 4th @ Tounsend along Sutter St and Van Ness.
On other days, there are 2 buses that take you TO the bridge, #28 and #29, but they have shorter routes too, ask the driver if the bus is going to the bridge. Both bus lines cross the park, you can see here on the map, enlarge and scroll over for easier reading http://transit.511.org/static/provid...2007102343.pdf |
Thanks for the response. My current plans are to try the bridge bus (#76 as you say) on April 10, 2009(Good Friday)in the evening. I assume that holiday service may apply that day.

Why would you ASSUME that Good Friday is a holiday ??
It's not as far as bus routes are concerned http://transit.511.org/schedules/ind...331&cid=SF If you are wanting to get TO the bridge , walk across it and come back, you aren't going to be able to do that except on a Weekend day or one of the few holidays listed above. |
San Francisco only named after a catholic, the city does not observe all catholic holidays, at least not officially.
Bus # 76 DOES NOT run on Fridays unless December 25 falls on a Friday. |
Best to check the MUNI web site to see what are considered holidays for the transit service. Usually just the big cultural holidays (Christmas, New Years, Thanksgiving)count and not the individual religous ones.
