Nice place to stop for the night between Akron, OH and Walt Disney World.

Getting married in December and leaving for a honeymoon in Walt Disney World on December 28. Looking for a nice, romantic place to stop for the night between Akron, Oh and Walt Disney World.

If you can do 10+ hours the first day, get to Savannah GA

Looked at the calendar and the 28th is Sunday so that might work OK if they start early.
BUT even closer--Charleston. A perfect stop!! You'll want to stay a day.

Yup, Charleston is a solid choice.

I'm a big fan of tackling as much driving as possible on the first day since I have less energy on day 2.

Asheville, NC, is off the quickest route but is a great town, just about half way from Akron to Orlando, and
the Grove Park Inn is romantic.

Closer to I-77 is Old Salem, near Winston Salem, NC. The Zevely Inn and Brookstown Inn get good reviews. Quaint restoration and again about half way.

Winston would make a lONG drive the next day, I think.
I agree about the first day tackling as much as possible. But I am a little leary of saying that Savannah is 10 hours (second post).
We in Charlotte are about 3.5 to Charleston for the OP's final calculation--and I'd think about 7+ to Akron.
Might check out Camden, SC. There is a beautiful B&B there--don't know the name.

A long long long 10 hour drive the day after their wedding? Most of you must have ever experienced a wedding-night before.

Halfway would be Rock Hill, SC.
If I were to pick one of the hotels, I'd go with the Hilton Garden Inn.

There are some B&Bs too -

If stopping in the northern part of NC appeals to you here are three possibilities:

JOLO Vineyards has a charming little honeymoon cottage and a first rate restaurant. Add an incredible view and this fits the romantic stop criteria.

Also romantic for overnight is the Vintage Rose in Pilot Mountain, NC.

Go to JOLO for dinner.

The Hampton Inn in Dobson, NC is affiliated with a very nice vineyard, Shelton Vineyard. Their restaurant, the Harvest Grill, is nice. Right on I-77S.

Fair warning: this will keave you with a very long drive the next day, but it is a lovely area.

I know exactly what the day after feels like. I think also that they might want to think about making it a more extended trip to Orlando unless that is already written in stone.
But, now the OP needs to think about some of these options.
If they are considering Rock Hill, there might be something attractive in Charlotte also to consider.

Sorry. Wrong link -

Two options with almost perfect scores (and lots of reviews)

Roughly 8 hours from Akron to Winston or Asheville, 9 from either to Orlando.

Of course in December, that could get extended, at least north of Columbia, by weather.

For info, Wytheville is 2 hours from Charlotte/Rock Hill. It is kind of a cute town--away from the interstate. Don't know about any places there.
MT Airy is just a few more miles down the road and a bit east if you wanted to do Mayberry.
I think the OP needs to say if they just want a stopover for a long trip, or want to maybe stay a day on the way. I know what the title says, but we are giving some sort of nice places to tarry, not just rooms on the way.

You're right Gretchen. If the OP plans on just having a place to sleep and leaving early, really any clean place will do. But in case they are interested in spending the day someplace, I will also recommend Mt Airy especially if she/they are old enough to remember Andy Griffith! We loved being there and exploring the town. Just fun. We did not stay here but if going back I certainly would. http://www.sobottamanor.com/

The sunday after Christmas is probably not the best day to plan a long drive and expect to make good time.

It is interstate driving from Akron--and I'm not sure it will be any more or less crowded on a Sunday. There won't be truck traffic.
OH, I don't know--key words like "honeymoon" sort of make a Saturday wedding a probability when leaving on Sunday.

No need to get smart or snippy, I was simply pointing out that we shouldn't assume they are getting married the day prior to this trip. Many people don't leave for their honeymoon the next morning.
