San Francisco boutique hotels
Traveling to San Francisco is fall. Narrowed choices to Hotel Adagio and Kensington Park. Need advise on location and properties. Need a central location.

I don't know anything about the particular hotels, but although they are only blocks from each other, I prefer the location of the Kensington Park -- closer to Union Square, whereas the Adagio is a block or more closer to a not-as-nice neighborhood (although the particular block is still fine).

We stayed at the Kensington Park in February and liked it very much. The room was small but comfortable, the staff was friendly, and the location was very convenient, with many nice restaurants in the neighborhood.

It is not on your list, but I love Hotel Monico. Very art deco, great service, afternoon wine tasting and two blocks from Union Square

We liked very much the Huntington on Nob Hill. Extremely personalized service, probably the best bar in town (very popular among the locals) and definitly the best spa in town. And the best location in town.

FWIW, I really dislike the location of the Huntington (and all the other hotels on Nob Hill). I like to be able to walk out the door and "be somewhere". On Nob Hill, you have to "get" where you're going, and it's at the top of a STEEP hill (steeper than all the hills in Texas' "hill country", trust me). It's a very nice neighborhood, just not where I'd want to stay as a visitor.
