San Francisco Attire Tomorrow
I checked out the weather report and it says Hi near 59 for tomorrow in San Francisco. I'm arriving tomorrow with 2 girlfriends from Atlanta and would like to know if 59 degrees FEELS the same in Atlanta as it does in San Francisco. Will a long sleeve shirt and light jacket suffice for the weekend? We have tickets for evening Alcatraz tour and Cobbs Comedy club in the evening.
I think you will want at least one more layer--especially for the Alcatraz tour. It's cooler on the water, and there may be a wind.
I agree, bring extra layers. Also bring a rain jacket as we've had something like 24 rainy days out of 30 this month. It can and has been chilly lately but if the sun comes out, it warms right up. Count on it being chilly in the evening.
It is supposed to rain again tomorrow so be sure to dress for that. Even the high 50's feel colder when it is damp. You will probably need some more than an unlined light jacket for Alcatraz.
One block will be warm and the next block will be cold. Dress in layers.
"The coldest winter I ever experienced was the summer in San Francisco"--Mark Twain (or something like that) |
Except it's an urban legend. Mark Twain never said it or wrote it.

I'm in downtown S.F. right now. If I was walking around today in just a long sleeve shirt and light jacket (without a thermal tee underneath) I'd be cold. If you bring a sweater to layer under the jacket, you will be more comfortable. And that jacket had better be some variation on a rain coat.
If your day involves Alcatraz, for pity's sake bring something warm. Being out on the Bay is no joke on a damp day - don't make yourselves miserable. |
59 degrees in San Francisco will feel colder than it does in Atlanta.
plus definitely the wind and rain factor. and very true as said above, one block to the next can feel quite different. this is proven by all the vendors selling fleece jackets and sweatshirts (with San Francisco written on them) down by Fishermen's Wharf -lol. |
Suze, we own a bunch of those fleece things. When it's hot in the central valley it's so hard to think about putting on a sweatshirt.
Hi luv2trav2, do bring clothes that you can layer. Expect rain, coldish and damp weather. Don't forget, SF is surrounded by water on 3 sides. Rain is predicated through next Tuesday. And have a fun visit!!
Bring a vest or a sweater. I always feel hot, today I have on: a t-shirt, a light cardigan, a lined jacket.
The weekend will be cooler. Besides, the closer you are to the water, the windier it gets. |
As others have said, lots of layers. There can be wind chill. To Alcatraz, I'd wear a "hoodie" anytime of year. Yes, probably a rain jacket as we've been getting showers on and off all month! If anyone has a wind resistant umbrella, bring them. :-)
No. It won't feel like Atlanta weather. I went for a sales meeting in July one year and our "gift" was a windbreaker. We all wore it every time we went outside - and froze on the way to Alcatraz.
Starrs has it right. And also bring a scarf and gloves set. And as I said earlier, don't forget the hoodie!
Think fleece :-)
We are setting records for rain this year and the weekend is supposed to be rainy. I wouldn't worry about gloves if you are dressed warmly enough, but an umbrella will be a must. I would bring some medium weight piece of outerwear with lightweight wool or fleece sweaters. You will appreciate being cozy and warm enough rather than always being too chilly. And if you are going to Alcatraz you will have to get there by boat. It will be chilly on the water.
luv, one other thought, everyone should bring more than one pair of shoes (no doubt you will). I made a mistake once of going to SF for just the weekend during the rainy season and wanting to pack light I only had one pair of shoes. By the end of the day I had water inside of my shoes (the gutters were like rivers). Not fun!! I had to spend time the next day buying another pair and had to wear my wet shoes to Macy's so I could do that.
