San Francisco Area Somona Wine Country Info
 

Okay...I thought I'd expand my search word possibilities to include San Francisco, because I had no luck posting with only "Sonoma" in my subject line.

We (two couples) are going to Sonoma for the long Thanksgiving weekend. Does anyone know of a nice restaurant or inn in wine country that serves a nice holiday dinner on Thanksgiving day?

Also, and recommendations on limo rental companies for touring wineries? Are there any services which offer drivers only (we will have our own vehicle). Thanks!

Topping for you but also, have you tried the search box at all? There have been quite a few discussions on some of what you're asking, and maybe it will tide you over until someone responds. Not sure a restaurant for Thanksgiving has been discussed before, but something might come up if you do a search. Hope you get some responses soon.

Not sure about the Thanksgiving dinner but do you really need a driver? If you eat full meals, sip, not slug, and pour, you shouldn't become inebriated. Besides, you will enjoy driving through Sonoma county, the roads are well marked and you'll have flexibility. Try trip advisor's Sonoma forum, it may be more active than this one.

LLindaC...yes, our group needs a driver. ;) We don't plan on being sloshed, but I'm sure we will let our hair down a bit. I want everyone to be able to relax and have that extra glass of wine if they want to. Drinking and driving is not something I want any of us to take chances with. I will check out TripAdvisor...thanks for the suggestion.

one more thing Polly...if you stay in a town like Healdsburg, you can walk/stagger to MANY tasting rooms.

Thanks, bern! Those places all look awesome, and I've tucked the links into my e- travel file. I will check to see if any are serving on Thanksgiving, but unless you've ever tried to find an open restaurant on Thanksgiving day, you'd be shocked at how difficult it is to do. We were in San Francisco proper three Thanksgivings ago, and finally gave up and had sandwiches at an Armenian (or something equally exotic) deli. I'm thinking a nice inn or hotel would be our best shot. I have several non-holiday dinners to snarf as well, and I'm really liking the looks of Cafe la Haye, in particular. Are you from the area? Maybe you'd like to pick up some extra cash driving four wine-hounds around for two days...seeing as you've already established yourself as the helpful type. ;)

Just in case anyone else has the same quandary down the road, I just found a place. The Lodge At Sonoma has multiple seating from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Here's a holiday menu link:

The Carneros Bistro, the restaurant at The Lodge at Sonoma is Very Good ! If I were going over the hill in to Sonoma town for T'Giv I would probably choose it. :)

We enjoy Cafe la Haye as well. Do check out Harvest Moon, Meritage,
The Swiss Hotel & Della Santini.

I forgot about the Carneros restaurant. I agree with Razzle, it's very good.
I live in Sonoma part time. If you need any more suggestions, let me know.

Bern...thanks again for your tips. We have reservations at Inn at Sonoma. It got pretty high marks on TripAdvisor...do you know it?

I have some friends that always have their visitors stay there. They seem to like it very much and really like the breakfast. The Carneros Bistro is just a few blocks away from the Inn.

Check out the Madronna Manor in Healdsburg. They would have a nice Thanksgiving dinner and its a lovely hotel at the same time. Also Hotel Healdsburg. I always recommend checking on the site, www.HealdsburgRentals.com since they can often book things quite unique.
