San Francisco and Wine Country Restaurants
 

Message: Thanks everyone for the great advice from my earlier posting. We've got just about the whole trip planned. Still looking for some good restaurant recommendations. We like good food and good restaurants, but prefer basic cuisine to the frufru! Kam, could you please post the name of the Mexican place in Tiburon? We will be spending 2 and a half days in the wine country and 5 in SF so there's lots of good eating to do. Thanks, BS

Our favorite Wine Country restaurant is in Yountville--Bistro Jeanty. Very reasonable and always wonderful! Another don't miss is Auberge du Soleil on the Silverado Trail near Rutherford. It's very pricey, but at least go for a drink (or lunch outdoors on the deck) because the views are incredible.

There is a wonderful seafood restaurant called Scoma's...on the wharf and has been there for years. Another great place is the Washington Square Bar and Grille. Good, basic cuisine.

the place in tiburon is great!! It's called Guaymas!!! Wonderful tamales and hand shaked margs!!!Also, if you can get into french laundry high five.. I've been there a few times, but their wine list is getting a little outrageous.. I notice it keeps going up in price every six months, i dont think i'll be going back, but the food is incredible..Also <BR>Meadowood is very nice as well for a nice lunch...I just went to Brix in Napa for dinner and because of the open kitchen it was soooo hot and the food wasnt that great but the waitstaff was really nice!!!! pinot blanc is pretty good in Napa, as well as Don giovannis good luck!!!!!!

If you are going to be in Santa Rosa, my parents and sister recently ate at Cafe Lolo, which was recommended by the owner of The Gables Inn, where they stayed. They loved it, and said it was not too fancy. My sister, who is a very finicky eater, still raves about the meal that night.

Terra in St. Helena is a marvelous restaurant.

Try Mustard's in Yountville!

Do not miss Culinary Institute of America. Also, the Sanoma Mission Inn Restaurant provides fine dining. We were just there in June of '99. I loved wine country. It has much to offer. I'm not real sure a mediocre restaurant would survive. <BR>The Culinary Institute really is wonderful and to be fair the Mission Inn was fabulous too! <BR> <BR>I have to admit the Fafillon, Pastrio were two of the best ever restaurants we <BR>have even been to. Also, for more moderately price I thought Scoma's offered very fresh and reasonable seafood. Being from Boston I am pretty fuzzy about fish .... this was very good! <BR> <BR>Washington Square in North Beach also very good. <BR> <BR>They have the typical Ruth Cris, Morton's, Capital Grille, Arthurs ..... steak houses with excellent beef as they are throughout the country. <BR> <BR>Dress warm for Frisco and be assured wine country is 25 degrees warmer. <BR> <BR>Have a great trip! <BR> <BR>Have a wonderful visit. <BR>
