San Francisco and Surrounding Areas
 

Hi guys,

I think that I have chosen San Francisco as my next destination. I have never been to the city and just want to know some basic stuff about what there is to do there. Also, I was wondering if there was a way that I could see some of the national parks (Yosemite, Sequoia, etc) without taking away all of my time in the city.

I would go to the Destinations section for your very basic question about what to do. I am sure you already know some stuff and repeating it would be a waste of someone's time.

I'm not exactly sure what this means - of course time spent in Yosemite or Sequoia would take away from time spent in the city. Yosemite is about a 4 hour drive (one way) from San Francisco.

Hard to answer the question when we have absolutely no idea how much time you will have to spend in the city in the first place.

Or what you like to do, either.

How much time do you have for the entire trip? Like the others have said, Yosemite is 4 hours away and Sequoia even further.

There is a LOT to do in San Francisco. What time of year are you going? You could see a Giants game or a 49ers game. There are museums, festivals, plays, concerts, parks, shopping, and attractions like Alcatraz. Will you have a car, or are you planning on utilizing public transportation?

Definitely let us know how much time you have for your trip. I think most people can get a good feel for SF with about 3 days there - if you have more time, you can see more of the city, of course, but I would say 3 days is the minimum if you want to see more than just the main highlights.

You mentioned some national parks - we also have plenty of state parks in the area to visit, other towns, etc. Lots to do an see within a few hours of SF.

No. It takes time to drive to Yosemite and Sequoia and you will probably want to spend some time at each of those places if you make the effort to drive there.

When we visit San Francisco we like to drive to Big Sur on Highway 1 through Half Moon Bay, Carmel, etc.
