San Francisco airport hotel recommendations?
 

I need one night near San Francisco Airport. Any recommendations? Our worst hotel memory was a number of years ago at a Best Western near the airport where we were woken up every hour on the hour by a train whistle and then the hotel gave us a 5AM wake-up call which we had never asked for. Since it is just one night, it doesn't have to be fancy but I want clean and not anywhere near the train (if it is still there).

For SFO -- I would ONLY and ALWAYS use Priceline - unless you had to park a car. (if I was leaving a car - I'd book one of the park/fly deals at a nearby motel since the major hotels either don't offer it or charge a huge parking fee)

SFO is one of the very best locations anywhere for Priceline. You would get one of the better 3.5 or 4 star properties mostly just south of the airport.

There are a few Best Westerns, so I'm not sure which one you stayed at, but if it was the El Rancho Inn, yes, the train does run right behind it. It's a little farther from the train to the hotels Janis refers to, which are any of those on Bayshore Blvd (as opposed to El Camino Real). There's Hyatt, Marriott, Westin, Sheraton, Days Inn, Red Roof Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Embassy Suites and others.

I second the Priceline suggestion: friends got the Sofitel (4 star, I think) for $89 and it was really good.
The Marriott is always a safe bet too!

Once you get those type prices you will be addicted!
I rarely spend over $40-$50 on the road at fabulous places, and under$80-100 for 4* hotels in large cities, sometimes only $60 even in Boston.

I use Hotwire and have stayed at the Hyatt (not a lot of food options nearby), the Sheraton, Embassy Suites and last week the Doubletree (all have lots of food options nearby). We always stay over before our 6am flights. Doubletree was excellent.

I LOVE the linens at the Doubletree (didn't know they had the posh stuff like some of the others). And especially at $50 or $55 on PL or HW :)

I really have no further input on the hotels (after, I live here, so I stay in my house, not at airport hotels!). But, out of curiosity, what "lots" of food options are you referring to near the Sheraton, Embassy Suites and Doubletree? I'm wracking my brain and can't think of ANY except Kincaid's (is it even still in business?). On the other hand, there's a Sizzler, Max's, El Torito and Elephant Bar all within walking distance of the Hyatt (not great food, but there nonetheless).

Yeah sf7307 - I don't remember any nearby food, at least not w/i walking distance of the Doubletree. (But the linens WERE great :) )
