San Francisco advice

Hi all,
DH and I have one night to spend in San Francisco following a wedding we're attending in the wine country. By chance, my college BFF, who currently lives in Paris, will be in San Franciso that night as well - hooray! We'll be meeting her and husband for dinner at Bacar, which is not negotiable as her cousin is exec chef so she really wants to go (understandably!). We're staying at the Omni which is 1.3 miles away (per yahoo maps). Would this be a safe, enjoyable walk, or should we use another form of transportation? I can wear comfy shoes and don't mind walking at all, if its a pleasant route. Most of the walk is up 2nd street, per the map i checked. Thanks for your help!

Sorry, I can't answer, but I'm curious. I know BF is usually boy friend, but in this case could mean best friend, but what is a BFF?

Put in your starting and ending addresses at 511.org. I would see if a muni bus gets you there ($1.50 each way a person).

Patrick- BFF is Best Friends Forever.

Wow. It would have been FOREVER before I figured that one out. Thanks.

If nobody else chimes in,walk up California St to Stockton (slightly uphill) and take bus 30 or 45 to Caltrain.

This is a newly remodeled area of the city, don't know how (un)safe at night.

Take a taxi. The route to the restaurant is not particular nice or pedestrian-friendly, unless there happens to be a Giants game around the time of your reservation, in which case a lot of people will be walking that way.

I'd agree with Faina. This is not the kind of neighborhood around your hotel where you can safely walk around.

There are patches, especially around Mission St, where it's been a down-at-the-heels kind of place for many years.

why not take a taxi? $5 or $10 should get you there.

Hey easy, it's ME you agree with!!

FainaAgain Jul 7th, 2008 02:49 PM

I dare you both not to agree with me :))

I too would take a taxi becktx. Have a fun evening. How nice that your friends will be in SF when you two are there. Good timing!

First of all, you are headed to one of the best winebar in all of San Francisco. Bacar is a terrific place with a ton of good wines available by the glass.

Just like my BFF luveitaly stated, take a cab.

Hi, dmlove!

so sorry!

Your post wasn't showing when I was typing mine.

Yes, of course, you're correct! Take a taxi! :)

Faina's correct, too! the other side of Market can be sketchy sometimes! :)

Thank you all - a taxi it is! Yes, BFF is 80's speak for Best Friends Forever. :) I'm excited to hear that Bacar is a good choice!
