Dear 2010, I have so enjoyed the last of your trip report!

I am glad that you "found" the Martin Luther King memorial with the waterfall, it is a special little place.

It is interesting to me that you still enjoyed the food at Sears as they do have new owners (for maybe 4 years or so) as I have never been able to just walk in and get a table and as bad as I need my coffee first thing in the morning I never was interested in waiting in the long line down the sidewalk. Maybe one of these days I will be lucky too!

Another point of interest was your good comments regarding the Chancellor Hotel. Think I will stay there the next time I get into SF. I always like to stay at Union Square.

Now about Nordstrom's shoe department..dangerous place that, lol. I first started buying shoes at Nordstrom's in Seattle (that isn't too far from you hint, hint) way before Nordstrom's came into California.

I'm enjoying your report! Just wondering what bookstore this was. If it was Stacey's (on Market Street, a few blocks west of Perbacco), unfortunately, it has succumbed to the economy and the woes of independent booksellers.

They did a fabulous job remaking the old Emporium building into the mall, didn't they? The incorporation of the rotunda is spectacular. And you won't even have to leave to eat. There's both an excellent food court, and excellent restaurants right in the mall (Lark Creek Steak and Straits are two of the excellent "real" restaurants).

2010, next time you come, if you're in the mood for pizza, try Gialina in the Glen Park area. Fantastic thin crust pizza, amazing appetizers and great desserts. It made Michaeil Bauer's best 100 restaurants in the SF Bay Area this year. We loved it. Glen Park is a bit out of the way, but it is a cute little district that feels like a real neighborhood to me.

On our first morning, we did have to stand in a short-ish line to go into Sears. We declined to sit at the counter for breakfast opting for a table instead. Once inside, we decided that sitting at the counter would be an experience in itself. The next day we planned to sit at the counter if a table was not available but we were seated in a timely fashion! So, it is possible to bypass the line if you elect to sit at the counter!

The Chancellor was a wonderful place to stay in the spring. It does say on the website that the hotel is not air conditioned. The room does have a ceiling fan which we used during our stay. If you are travelling in the summer months, perhaps request a quiet room where you can leave the window open or choose another hotel with a/c. Depends how well you do in the heat!

And yes, I have shopped at the Nordstrom in Seattle although it has been a while! I was very sad when the Nordstrom Rack pulled out of Bellis Fair in Bellingham ... which is closer to home! But how special is it to have two pairs of shoes from Nordstrom San Francisco? VERY!!!

The name of the book store is Borders on the corner of Post & Powell. I assume that it is a chain. But with two levels of books & cd's, it was a marvellous place to browse!

Colibri's sister restaurant (different name; can't remember what it's called) is located in the Westfield Center. From its website, the interior looked very modern & clean. We decided to go to the Geary Street restaurant for more authentic ambiance. I assume that the food is just as good!

What is "Check Please Bay Area"?

Check Please Bay Area (they do it in other cities too) is a public television show (KQED here) with a host and three "regular" people. Each of the three picks their favorite local restaurant and all three go (separately) and then review it in a round-table format. It's fun to watch but I've found the restaurants to be hit-and-miss whatever the reviews are!

It seems that many of the reviewers on Check Please are younger than we are, and prefer restaruants that appeal to the younger set.
