San Francisco

Thinking of a trip to San Fransisco for three days in August. Never been there. Where would you stay? What would you do?

Oh, Lordy susannewc! Where would one begin? Where are you from? What do you like? What do you don't like? Why are you going there and what do you expect? Are you alone? With children? What kind of budget? Get some direction going and I'm sure there are many people here who can help define and help out.

What is your lodging budget, and what are your interests? There is a lot to do there.

Type StuDudley into the search box, and you'll find a wealth of information on San Francisco.

I see that this is your first post on Fodor's (Click on your name at the top of the page and it will show all of your posts).

The smart thing to do before starting a what to do, where to stay, etc. post is do a search. The search box is also near the top of the page. Most of your questions will be answered. Then come back with specific questions.

I would certainly book a tour of the City. Its a great way to see all the different parts of SF and learn their history. If you are there on a Wed. night... go to the Top of the Mark Hopkins hotel. Great views and its the one night a week when LaVay Smith and her Red Hot Skillet Lickers play great swing/jazz music... lots of groupies in costume appear and dance. Its fun!! Shop around Union Sq. Visit the Farmer's market at the Ferry Building. Aug. can be chilly..so bring a wrap.

I would do the same I do before every trip - hit the library, start reading. You can get Fodor's, Frommers, Lonely planet there!

Or you can start with visiting the "destinations" parts of those websites.

Then, go to travel talks and read... all this been discussed earlier. On Fodor's just type "san francisco" in the search window.

Happy plannings :)
