San Francisco

Can anyone tell me what is the 49 mile drive in San Francisco, I have read some posts about it but, nothing specific was wondering if it’s a must do, how long it takes and where it starts. Thanks. Gina

I drove this one day when I was "between jobs". It takes a good two hours or more without stops.

The whole section on the lower right of the map is not worth visiting. After you've hit Mission Dolores (heading counter-clockwise) there's nothing interesting until you hit around the Baseball stadium.

Keep in mind that you won't be able to do some of the Golden Gate Park part of it on Sundays as some of the roads are closed except for pedestrian traffic.

Be sure to print off a map. Some of the signs are missing. I think it's a great way to get an overview of the city. You'll see some wonderful views you might miss otherwise.

we walked 1/3-1/2 of it one time and I've never been so exhausted in my life. It felt like I was walking the stairs all the way to heaven. walking thru Russian hill, chinatown area was the worst.
