San Fran to Seattle

My daughter is moving from SF to Seattle and I will travel from South Carolina to do the drive with her. Sept. 06. We have 2 1/2 days and would love advice on the best route. From other forums I can tell we need to see Ave of the Giants and Cannon Beach. If we leave SF after lunch can we get to Ave. in time to see it, and where to stay. Should we then head to I-5 to make some good time or stay on 101. I know it's a long way and we really don't want to drive more than 7 hours each day. Would love help with planning this jaunt.

You are going to have to leave earlier and drive more than 7 hours a day.

The straight, most direct drive to Seattle w/o going up the coast is over 800 miles so you'd have about 14 hours of driving w/o meal stops, etc. When you add in a detour through the Redwoods you are adding a good 6+ hours just dirve time plus stops.

And SF to the Redwoods around Eureka are over 200 miles if you leave in the afternoon you won't be there until 5 or 6 p.m.

So 2+ days is really not long enough.

Are you driving her car or a U-Haul?

What exactly do you mean by 2 1/2 days?

The distance is about 825 miles. When we drive from Seattle to San Francisco, we spend the first nihgt in Ashland, OR (460 miles). The next day we drive 365 miles to San Francisco.

When we want to visit the Oregon Coast and the redwoods, we take four or five nights for the trip to San Francisco.

Well stated happy trails. That's a good comparison of the two routes.
