San Fran to Napa Wineries?

My mother-in-law, sister-in-law and myself will be heading to San Fran and Napa Oct. 6 for a long weekend. We'll be leaving San Fran at noon on Friday. My question is, what is a good route to take in order to hit some good wineries on the way up to Napa? (we're staying at the Embassy Suites in Napa) This isn't our first trip to Napa, and we're short on time, so I'm open to small/unique wineries.

Thanks!

I would go directly to your hotel, then head up the valley and hit the wineries from there.

Trinke, Tim_and_Liz gave you excellent advise. However I am wondering what route you are taking to Napa (assuming you are driving). Are you going over the Bay Bridge and up I-80 or over the Golden Gate Bridge and up 101?

We aren't sure which route to take actually. I thought it may depend upon which stops we'd like to make. Suggestions for which way to go and what to see along the way??

Thanks again!

Trinke, if go onto the website sfgate.com, look on left side of screen, scan down to "Regional" you will see everything from maps to wine country etc. Click these on. Think it will be a help with your planning.

If you go up to Napa on I-80 (Bay Bridge) and Hwy 29, there are no wineries to visit before Napa.

If you go up Hwy 101 (Golden Gate Bridge from SF), and Hwy 121 to Sonoma - Napa, there's Roche, Viansa, and Gloria Ferrer in Sonoma County and then Domaine Carneros and Mt.St.John in Napa County before you hit Hwy 29 and the Embassy Suites.
