San Fran restaurants with Bay View
I'm trying to figure out of there is a restaurant in the Embarcadero area that has great Bay views, like the Slanted Door - which would be perfect except that we have to young teens who don't love Asian food. Waterbar is too pricey and dressy. I don't want to drive way out to the Marina because it adds way too much time to my commute from the Peninsula after a long day of work. Thanks for any suggestions! It's mainly about the view.

or Forbes Island There are a couple of restaurants in Pier 39 Also further at Fisherman's Wharf, in Ghirardelli Square, there's McCormick and Kuleto's. |
How about Waterfront restaurant at Pier 7.

Some of the best "view" restaurants have closed - like the Crown Room at the top of the Fairmont Hotel or the rotating restaurant in the Hyatt Embarcadero.
One of the best view restaurants remaining is the Bistro out at the Cliff House. It doesn't take that much to shoot straight out Geary Street. Then, afterwards, to get to the Peninsula, just take the Great Highway down to where it catches I-280. Just another alternate suggestion. |

I just have to weigh in on Forbes Island. We went there because co-workers were insistent during a conference. They had thought there would be views of the fish swimming by too, or maybe an aquarium. I really think they were looking for the Rainforest Cafe, but our concierge sent us to Forbes. (Not that I wanted the Rainforest Cafe either!)
True, it is an adventure, taking a boat out to your restaurant. And it is fun to climb the little lighthouse and see the view. We chose to eat upstairs rather than down by the port holes, which featured dirty bay water at night. The staff couldn't believe we wanted to eat upstairs. We had a partial view of the shore (not amazing, but not terrible). But my husband and I privately felt the food was mediocre at best. The wine-by-the-glass red I chose was just terrible, and I am not a wine snob; another woman in our party left her glass of the same wine mostly full. Perhaps since we opted to sit upstairs, service was really slow. I had a headache developing part way through the dinner, and from then on it was just miserable. Maybe my headache wasn't related to the food, but having to wait for the next scheduled ride back to shore for a taxi and advil was no fun. I think in San Francisco you can do much better for dinner. |
I think a good place to consider would be Palomino, on the Embarcadero at Spear. Delicious food, not too expensive, great atmosphere and killer view of the Bay Bridge.

I too like the bay views near the bay bridge. Very dramatic. Does not seem as touristy as further north by pier 39 etc.

5 Alive, my review of the same Forbes restaurant would be different, only I won't recommend it to somebody who's looking for a view. It may be windy and cold upstairs, no view downstairs. Of course you can take great photos, but only before dinner.
We went to Forbes several times, and no complains about food/drinks - only the price, so we save this for special occasions. Do you get motion sick? The rocking that you may not feel can cause headache. I always take ginger before going there. |
Second for La Mar on the patio.
They have basic things for the non=adventurous such as sandwiches, empanadas, grilled chicken. As well as seafood and Peruvian. |
We did go to Epic Roasthouse and it worked out perfectly for us. Very atmospheric. I haven't had a steak in years, so it was fun to have a delicious filet, cooked to perfection. The sides were all fantastic. We had ceviche, tuna tartare, onion rings for appetizers. Excellent cocktails. But I think that all of the above restaurants were good suggestions. Waterbar would have been fine. So many wonderful options! Thanks everyone!

We'll have to try Epic Roasthouse next visit. We loved our lunch at Chaya Brassiere. Very good food in a lovely ambiance. ***kim*** ((#))

You didn't say anything about the view! The food is good but the view is sensational!
