San Fran Hotel suggestions?

I'm travelling to San Fran in Late October. Any suggestions on where to stay and/or what area to stay in?

I don't know if you are budget minded or not, but I recently stayed at the San Remo Hotel. It is near the wharf, crooked part of Lombard Street, and a cable car stop. The price was great. The rooms are a bit small, and the bathrooms are down the hall, but you can't beat the price for the location. I think their web site is www.sanremohotel.com

San Francisco is one of the top tourist cities in the country and offers a wide range of accomodations. Without knowing your budget, your interests and what you want to see, and your preference as to large, small,B&Bs etc. we really can't suggest anything. Why don't you do a search here and then take a look at sfgate.com, find a few hotels and then ask us specific quesitons. Your question is way too vague.

Any reports on the Marriott at Fisherman's Wharf? What's NOT TO MISS in that area? Thanks...

Roger, the Marriott Fisherman's Wharf is really quite posh and one of the best of this chain. Not to miss--Alcatraz tour if you can book it ahead--they are currently sold out by about a week in advance. There's the Hyde Street cable car turnaround which makes riding easier, you can walk in North Beach (where Beach Blanket Babylon plays at Club Fugazi), the Little Italy of SF. You can walk up into Chinatown from there or climb up to see Coit Tower. Easy walk do to Ghirardelli Square, the Cannery, the Maritime Museum--have an Irish coffee at Buena Vista. And, if you're with kids (or maybe anyway) visit Pier 39. We were up in the city on Saturday and it is overrun with tourists right now from everywhere! Never seen it so crowded! The line of cars waiting to cross the GG must have been 5 miles long and creeping along! Plan ahead!! and good luck.
