San Fran Hotel: <$150 ?
 

I'm looking for a hotel in a 'prime' location that allows us to walk most places for less than $150 (close to $120 would be even better). Of course, I would like something nice, clean and safe as we usually stay in very nice places but since this is an extension to a work trip (sneaking in a quick weekend in SF following a conference) we don't want to spend hundreds. Interesting and somewhat nice or offbeat works too. Thank you!

You might try Priceline but I wouldn't hold my breath. That will usually get you a spot in Oakland or by the Airport. If you are already staying in a Hotel for a conference, they will often extend your stay @ the conferences' discounted rate. I have done this in SF a few times.

SF is great Priceline territory. I have stayed at the Hyatt Embarcadero a couple of times for $75/night for a double. Go to www.biddingfortravel.com and spend enough time studying until you are thoroughly informed about bidding on Priceline.

Also, depends on when. If it's late September to mid October, I've been looking and it's pricey over all.

I can recommend the Adante Hotel which is close to Union Square and right near the theatre district as well. Several restaurants close by and an internet cafe in the hotel for breakfast and lunch and wine tastings in the evening. The hotel also offers a free breakfast, cereal, coffee, muffins, pasteries.

I stayed there not long ago and it was a good location, great rates and the room small but comfortable. I think the suites are $130nt so certainly in your price range for a double.

I'd agree with the support for trying Priceline - I've bid and won the 4 star Marriott neart Union Square for $80 a night during peak season (was at the weekend though)

I have gotten Priceline rooms for $75 at the Hilton and at the Stanford Court in the past, but we were not traveling in Sept or Oct. Priceline seems to give the best SF deals at business hotels on weekends and holidays.

We enjoyed staying at the San Remo a few years ago. This is a small, European style hotel (shared baths) in North Beach, and a short walk to Fisherman's Wharf. The cable car stop is about a block away. The San Remo is in your price range.

It gets mixed reviews, but I've stayed there twice and liked it. It is well located just off Union Square.
