San Fran and surrounding area
 

My husband and I have 6 days to get away in mid-July. We want to see wineries, the city, and do lots of hiking!!! We live on a sunny beach in FL, so the cooler the weather the better. We'd love to stay at B&B's as well.

Consider a couple of days in the city and then head out: Cooler and wineries might be either the Monterey area or Point Reyes. From Point Reyes you could visit a few of the Sonoma wineries. The Monterey area has some good wineries as well.
Point Reyes is a national seashore and affords you some magnificent hiking, varied vistas and surround. There are a multitude of B&Bs as well. I have rented houses in the Point Reyes area for a week at a time several times over the years and still not explored all the places I wanted to within the park.

For hiking, be sure to spend a day in Big Basin State Park. If you make Monterey part of your trip, you can do Big Basin on the way from SF to Monterey.

If you want cooler weather, stick to the coast and coastal mountains. Inland will most likely be in the 90s or hotter.

Yosemite is about 4hrs from SF and great for hiking! Accomodations inside the park now would be hard to get but you could stay outside the Valley, maybe in Mariposa which is close to the Mariposa Grove inside the park and home to the Giant Sequios. You could spend a few days there and then drive north to Sonoma which is an hour from SF.

Two days in SF should be plenty to see the sites. Big Basin is a great place for hiking among the redwoods, as is Alum Rock Park in San Jose, which is on the way to Big Basin. Alum Rock Park is also known as "Little Yosemite." You should also consider spending a couple of days in San Jose as Big Basin is very close to the city. A couple of nice B&B's in SJ are Briar Rose and Hensley House. From SF you can take the scenic 280 freeway into SJ. From SJ you can head to Big Basin via route 17 through the Santa Cruz Mountains. After Big Basin I would spend the rest of the time in Monterey and Carmel. In the Monterey area I recommend 17 Mile Drive and Point Lobos just south of Carmel. Below there are a couple of links for B&B's in the Monterey Bay Area. There are numerous wineries in the Santa Cruz Mountains above SJ as well as in the Monterey region.

Yosemite is nice, but it will be quite hot and crowded in mid-July. It will probably be difficult to get reservations at this time.
