San Diego Westgate Hotel

I made reservations at the Westgate Hotel in San Diego for week in July. Has anyone stayed at this hotel? Are the rooms quiet, clean, and safe? Does the hotel have a pool? Is this a safe area? Any information would be appreciated.
Thanks

or tripadvisor.com which has the best info if you have a particular property in mind

My stay dates back a while so I cannot comment on the current quality of the hotel.
There is no pool, though, to my knowledge. The Westgate always used to focus on service quality and was quite successful at that when I was there last. A pool is not part of their concept, I believe.

The hotel is close to the city jail, but (or therefore ;-) ) quite safe, I would think. The lively Gaslamp district is just a short walk away.

I can't speak for the hotel itself and the area is OK. The Greyhound bus station is nearby and there is alot of undesireable types hanging out there. However, there's no reason for you to go that way since all the action of the Gaslamp area is in the other direction. It's also very close to Horton Plaza if you want to do some shopping.

Bottom line...there are nicer areas to stay IMO but there's nothing specifically wrong with the area of the Westgate.
