San Diego..US Grant or Westgate?

Would really appreciate your help on this one. Rate at US Grant for Executive Suite...$209... Westgate $239 for a non-view room. Please help me choose.

I have not stayed at either hotel but if I had to choose I would choose the Westgate. I think its a lot nicer.

How do you know it's nicer if you haven't stayed at the Grant. What is your opinion based on?

I had read somewhere that the US Grant is in a rather "seedy" area. Is this true? This is our first trip to San Diego and I do wish to stay in a decent hotel. There are so many hotels to choose from and since we are Wyndham "By request" members I thought I would start with them....Maybe I am wrong!

if you are willing to pay that much, you should check if the hotel del coronado is having any deals when your going. my opinion but i'd rather be on a beach then downtown.

I don't think either hotel is in a "seedy" area. They are in the business district and so during the week there is a lot of hustle and bustle outside, on weekends less. They are both very close to the Gaslamp District and Horton Plaza shopping mall, also the Civic Theater and Symphony Hall. Have you read the Rants & Raves about them?

The Grant and Westgate are across the street from one another, both downtown near the Gaslamp area. If you're willing to spend $200 a night and want the Gaslamp try the Horton Grand. As for the two you inquired about, the Westgate is more French Provencial decor. My opinion is that the Grant is better. Downtown near Gaslamp is safe
