San Diego to San Francisco
 

I am going in August to visit my friend who lives in San Diego. I definitely want to spend some time there since I've never been but we also plan to drive up the coast to San Francisco. We don't have too much time, maybe 4 days, we need advice on an itinerary. Can anyone help!

Do you mean 4 days for the whole trip: seeing San Diego, drive up the coast, see San Francisco, drive back down the coast? That would be virtually impossible. If you HAD to see both, you could fly to SF and spend a day and a half in each place, but I think your time is better spent in SD alone. Or, just drive up the coast to Laguna Beach and the charming towns around there.

If you mean you have 4 days for your SF outing, again I think you'd have to fly if you want to have any time in SF. Southwest has very good fares for that route. You can rent a car and drive outside the city once you get there.

if you mean 4 days for the drive, spend one night in santa barbara and 2 nights in the monterey/big sur area.

i will be in California the 6th-14th. i am planning on splitting the time just taking in San Diego and the other half exploring. I was in San Fran when i was much younger but my friend hasn't.

Like Jocelyn says, you don't have enough time, except spending all the time driving. Fly to SF. Or save it for another trip.
