San diego suites

We will be traveling to San Diego next Spring and wanted some opinions on these two hotels that have suites. The first one is Staybridge on Mira Mesa Blvd., and the other one is the Marriott Residence Inn on Hotel circle. We will be 4 adults and would like to have 2 bedrooms. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I would stay in either area!

What are you planning to do in San Diego...will you be traveling back and forth out of the city or just stationed in town? And how long will you be staying?

I would choose the Hotel Circle location. It's much more central, closer to Downtown, the Gaslamp area and the Embarcadero. It's also much closer to the Zoo and Sea World, Mission Beach. Yes, I-8 runs right through the middle of Hotel Circle, but all the hotels are set back from the freeway. The freeway gives you easy and quick access to anywhere you want to go.

The Mira Mesa location is in a primarily business area and is more remote from things most tourists want to visit.

We are planning on going to Sea World, the zoo, possibly a baseball game, the Gaslamp area, the beach and golfing. Any other ideas would be appreciated. We will be there for 9 nights. From what I was reading the Marriott hotel circle, is a new hotel so it should be pretty nice. I wonder if it is set back from the highway? I just got nervous when someone said not to stay in hotel circle. If there was a place not too expensive near the beach we may be interested in that too.

There is a nicer Embassy Suites on Market St in the Gaslamp area. Hotel circle is a good place to stay also, there is a Double Tree Hotel. I would stay in the Gaslamp area as there are a lot of restaurants and shops all around.
Do not stay in Mira Mesa.

Shelter Pointe Hotel (shelterpointe.com) has some lovely 2 bedroom townhouses...you might be able to get a decent senior rate or weekly rate.

Unless you really want a hotel, you might have better luck looking for a 2bed/2 bath condo. If you really want some beach time, staying on or just near a beach is your best bet.

For what you listed for activities, then 4Janet's suggestion of the Embassy Suite in the Gaslamp would be your best bet. The Gaslamp and Petco Park are right there. The Zoo is a short drive up the road. Sea World and the beaches are an easy drive away.

I'd stay at least part of the time at a hotel right on the beach. We like The Ocean Park Inn, has free parking and breakfast included in price. Look at the many positive reviews on www.tripadvisor.com. Hotel website is www.oceanparkinn.com

Also look at www.sandiego.org - wonderful San Diego tourist information site that often has offers on hotels, coupons for $'s off at many of the attractions.

Best wishes for a lovely holiday.
Sandy
