San Diego Sports Arena Neighborhood - Good Nite Inn SeaWorld

I'm looking at December 26-28 and considering the
Good Nite Inn SeaWorld motel
3880 Greenwood St

It has excellent rates ($50/night + tax). It also seems to have a very convenient location. Is there a catch? The TripAdvisor reviews mention nude bars, but I don't know what that means about the neighborhood. Is this a reasonably safe area to be coming back to at night?

I've tried Priceline also, but that particular weekend seems to be difficult. I will keep trying, though. I am considering this for a backup. Otherwise we will probably stay in a private room in the hostel in the Gaslamp district.

The Sports Arena area is perfectly safe. It is mostly businesses (including some stip clubs) and there is always a lot of traffic in that part of town. I'm not exactly sure where this particular motel is, but that area is convenient to Sea World and Old Town.

It's not the best area in town and the hotels there are used by people visiting the Marine Corps
Recruit Depot. The reason you are having difficulty finding anywhere else is that the Holiday Bowl is being played on December 30 and many hotels will have block bookings and won't know yet how many rooms will be used. If you can find something in Mission Valle/Hotel Circle, the area is better and the cost shouldn't be much more. However, as they are closer to Qualcomm they may also be booked.

I decided to book the HoJo Sea World instead:
http://www.the.hojo.com/sandiego11559

This seems like it might be nicer, and includes free breakfast and shuttles. Any information about that.

Thanks for the info.

Just an FYI - many hotels for a few miles around sea world put "sea World" in their title are a really in much worse areas. Make sure the HoJo isn't next door to your original choice before reserving.

FYI - Sports Arena is not a bad area, just not nice and touristy. And it is just about 1 - 2 miles down the road from Sea World.
