San Diego Restaurant Question Thanksgiving
Hello:
Can anyone offer a list of restaurants that will be open on Thanksgiving Day with approximate $ cost. Would like the list to include low, medium and high $ cost. If you are able to offer other information such as no reservation needed or must have reservation; casual dress o.k. etc. that would be very helpful. Thank you. Sandy |
Hello:
For anyone else who will be in San Diego on holiday over Thanksgiving and may be looking for this information I just discovered a list of restaurants open for Thanksgiving Dinner at www.signonsandiego.com - listed under Entertainment. If anyone has any personal recommendations on where to eat that would be still be much appreciated however I understand that perhaps if you are local you are preparing a feast at home. We have choosen to come during Thanksgiving to visit a son who is now making his home in San Diego (very small apartment) and I might add plans to stay. Your lovely weather encouraged us to choose this time of year to come. Counting the days now to our trip. I hope you all have a Blessed Holiday wherever you are. Sandy |
Thanks for posting the site, Sandy -- we're going to be there over Christmas. (Our son is stationed at Camp Pendleton.) Not sure if we will want to try to make a small dinner in our suite or just go out.

I'm topping this message off because we too are going to San Diego for Thanksgiving and are in need of a place to eat. I went to that website (thanks!) and I will list some of it's recommendations. Maybe some members could comment on any of these, or suggest their favorite? Thanks!

I was recently in San Diego & prior to leaving someone had posted here about needing a place for Thanksgiving. While there I did some checking. AR Valentien is the restaurant at the Lodge at Torrey Pines. It's beautiful there, the rest. gets excellent reviews & the Thanks. menu is $65/person with lots of delicious sounding choices. When I asked about availability I was told they were fully booked for large parties (this was 2 wks ago) but still had space for parties of 4 or less.
I ate at George's in the Cove (La Jolla)while I was there. There was actually quite a heated debate on this board about whether or not it was worth the $ when I asked here. I think Top of the Cove may be the less expensive area of George's-not sure. George's has 2 or 3 levels-sits on the water. The level where the bar is also has tables for dining & a less expensive menu. I was underwhelmed with the food & service at George's & was there after dark so the water is not visible. Another option I posted about for less $/casual is the Brockton Villa in La Jolla. This place sits across from the water, has great views from all tables, a funky fireplace inside. I only had breakfast there (terrific french toast) but they told me they would be serving Thanks. dinner but didn't have a menu or price yet. Had an excellent meal at the Kensington Grill in Kensington (not far from SD). Don't know about Thanks. but this place (somewhat casual/modern) was probably the best food I had. La Valencia if the hotel in La Jolla-supposedly a very nice hotel. Happy turkey! |
The Top of the Cove is a completely separate restaurant and, while good, is not - IMO - as good as George's.

Hello again:
Go to www.sandiego.org and click on NEW San Diego Dining Coupons. There is a list of restaurants open on Thanksgiving Day as well as the coupons. Thought this information may be of interest to a couple of the other posters who will be in San Diego either over Thanksgiving or Christmas. Sandy |
