Thanks for making that sacrifice for us, Heavens! LOL!

I know Barbara, it was a tough job, but someone had to do it...What we do to keep our Fodor friends informed, right?

You guys are all providing some good info. Especially appreciate TahitiTams & Barbara. Here's fingers crossed that good news is forthcoming in October & they will get going on that project & it includes Diane Powers. I will probably travel down to San Diego anyway this spring to get my dose of sunshine but it sure won't be the same without the old Bazaar & soaking up the sun on the patio of Casa de Bandini.

Here is the update on Diane Powers and the Bazaar..not good news, unfortunately!

Thanks for the update Alice. Now we know & what a disappointment, I am sure, for many of us. It would have been such a terrific location close to the Gaslamp Quarter, Seaport Village, etc. I am sure we can now close the book on any re-establishment of the Bazaar in any big way.

There is no place in San Diego that had the same appeal as Casa de Bandini did for us. It wasn't really the food but the atmosphere that took us to Old Town several times during each visit. Many years ago on our first visit to San Diego we had our first margarita on their patio & we had a ball in that great city & San Diego become our choice for a couple of visits every year thereafter. We always had to stay at the same hotel out at Shelter Island. It was one of those very special places for my wife & I. I guess maybe we can call this change progress - I don't know.

I read this this morning and was disappointed. These property people are so greedy. Isn't that John Moores' (Padres owner) Real Estate company? Maybe they're trying to show they can't find tenants, so they'll get to develop yet another high rise hotel/ofice building right on the bayfront.

I wouldn't "close the book" yet. Diane Powers made a huge success out of nothing once, she can do it again. This time is much easier as she has a proven formula to follow. "All" she has to do is find a suitable location! I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Hi All!!
I was so sad to read about the deal going south for Diane Powers but I called her assistant, Margie who is a sweetheart and I got some reassuring news..the deal is not completely dead but both parties have not come to an economic resolution but GMS Realty have to satsify all the requirements from the Port of SD and all parties want to be there, it is a matter of money..
JMI Realty is owned by John Moores, owner of the Padres..
This location is perfect for all parties and everyone hopes that it will work out!
Barbara, Alice, Shea, Heavens and Kmpordagee and all the other wonderful Fodorites who are keeping their fingers crossed that this will go to Diane Powers!
Best to all..

Alice Aug 22nd, 2006 10:30 AM

No Barbara, JMI is John Moores' company
