San diego places

Has anyone stayed at the Horton Grand Hotel, Comfort Inn Downtown, or La Pensione Hotel? My husband and I are going to SD June 29th till July 2nd and would love a place in a good area, clean, not too loud, some charm for under $100. Any other suggestions?

I stayed in the La Pensione a few years ago. It was clean and comfortable for one person, but I wouldn't say it had charm. My room was like a ship's cabin. I remember it being very dark. I had basic necessities only, and that was good enough for me at the time.

I just returned from a trip to San Diego a month ago, and liked the Balboa Park Inn. It was well-located for the park, and provided easy access to freeways, etc. I think my parents' room there was $89. My family stayed in a larger, apartment-like space with a separate living room, bedroom and kitchen, as well as a large bathroom. The website is www.balboaparkinn.com.

I've stayed at the Horton Grand Hotel. It's a great location in the Gaslamp Quarter. The rooms are gorgeous with Victorian decor. If you can get a room there for $100.00 per night I'd snap it up in an instant. This hotel is head and shoulders above the others on your list, IMO.

We are spending 5 nights in San Diego next month. The first 4 nights will be at the Emerald Plaza next to the convention center in town, but our last night (after a trip to San Fran area) will be at the Horton Grand. I am glad to hear it is recommended. We picked it due to proximity to the Gas Light district.

Thanks so much for the advice on where to stay. I'm looking up your suggestions now!
