San Diego / Palm Springs Restaurant Suggestions Please
Hello Everyone! I have received great information so far for my upcoming trip to San Diego / Palm Springs and have some recommendations for restaurants from other posts but am looking for some more suggestions.
We're doing 3-1/2 days at each location and night before leaving back to San Diego for our flight home on Saturday. We enjoy eating out but DH is more of a meat/potato type guy and I am the adventurous eater. We expect to pay more for our meals as we are on vacation. Thanks in advance for your help. |
I absolutely love the Yard House in Palm Springs! Food was excellent and service was outstanding!
I hated the Yard House in San Diego! Horrible service and horrible food! The plate they brought my steak out on had obviously been in a refridgerator and was covered in condensation! My mid rare steak was beef jerky. My husband'd experience was similar. |
We also had a great meal at the Yard House in the Palm desert area. Its located in a nice waterside restaurant/shopping area, and also has some other dining options such as P.F. Changs, Flemings, Cheesecake Factory.

Thank you both. Yard House sounds like a good choice for us. Any other suggestions?

Another vote for the Yard House at the River in Palm Desert. Great fun trying a few of the 100+ brews.
For San Diego, I'd recommend George's at the Cove on Prospect in La Jolla for a truly special meal. Their rooftop terrace and the bar serve reasonably priced dinners of still superb quality, while the gourmet section is very pricey (but well worth it). Also for a special experience, Nine-Ten in the Grande Colonial Hotel on Prospect St. in La Jolla isn't exactly a bad choice. California Cuisine type of place. Croce's in the Gaslamp has reasonably good food and a nice atmosphere with live bands playing almost every night, I think. Sbicca's in Del Mar is a neighbourhood kind of restaurant that is pretty nice, too. If you care for Italian, there are two Il Fornaios in the S.D. area that I am aware of. One is on Coronado and the other in Del Mar atop a nice and fashionable little shopping center right in the middle of town and overlooking the Pacific about a block away. |
Where are you staying? And by meat and potatoes, does that mean no seafood, chinese, or sushi?
One of our faves is Lou and Mickeys downtown. Great for steaks and seafood. Pricey, nice night out. There are many wonderful restaurants in the downtown, Gaslamp area. Sky is the limit, really. If you walk on Fifth you'll see many restaurants with their menus posted outside. Kind of fun to go early and "shop" where you want to eat. Haven't had a bad meal there yet... SD has wonderful Italian and seafood. And their chinese and sushi is pretty awesome too...where to begin? Cuisine or neighborhood? |
Hi - Re: Palm Springs area. I like Sullivans on El Paseo (steak place) in Palm Desert. They also has jazz. Ruth's Chris has a great steak sandwich w/bernaise in the bar for @$18-it's fabulous. Have heard The Falls in Palm Springs is good although haven't eaten there. The Deck in PS is fun for a drink; they have an open pit fireplace. If for any reason you're into golf, Arnold Palmer's in La Quinta is fun; obviously lots of great golf memorabilia (food is good-not great) - better place for a drink or lunch. Casselli's is a good Italian place. Have fun.

Thank you - I am making a list.
As for hubby - I just meant that he is not very adventurous but also likes seafood and chinese - sushi is out though. We are staying at the Hilton San Diego Resort on Hilton points and in Palm Springs we are staying at the Pepper Tree Inn if that helps in making any decisions. Also, we'll be in PS on Valentine's Day - I am assuming reservations will be a must but am wondering about that too. |
If you are not adventurous then Sullivan's is a good choice in Palm Springs. It does get very crowded. Since you are in Palm Springs, I like Kaiser Grill, the food is good and it's not very "out there". There is also the Fisherman's Market (no atmosphere but the food is fresh). If you want to dine on Valentine's day, definitely make a reservation.
