Hello everyone,

I am going to be at a conference at UCSD for 2 days in October and then at another meeting for 2 days at the Town & Country Resort and Convention Center. I originally planned to stay all 4 days at the Town & Country, but it gets really bad reviews on Trip Advisor. Does anyone have any suggestions for other lodging? I could stay closer to UCSD and then move to Town and Country or skip T&C altogether if I can get something reasonably close by. My meetings at the T&C will be on a weekend, so maybe traffic will not be such a concern? I would like to spend $250 or less per night. I will rent a car. Thanks!

I would skip the T & C all together and hang out in La Jolla..

Check www.biddingfortravel.com and bid on Priceline. I usually get a great hotel anywhere from $50-$100 a night.

There's a Doubletree Hotel in Del Mar, which is located in an office park bordering I-5. While it's not a scenic spot, the hotel is quite nice for a 3-star and offers convenient access to the area, La Jolla and Del Mar in particular. UCSD would easily be reachable. Parking is free. Nice pool, but some noise from the Freeway there. Rooms are quiet, though and rates for the most part are quite reasonable. If budget is of concern, I think you could do worse than this.

Forgot to add: The choices TahitiTams gave you would all be nicer, of course. However, they would most likely be more expensive. So I thought the Doubletree might deserve an honourable mention. Should you be getting similar rates at any of the Hotels mentioned by TahitiTams as at the Doubletree, do jump at one of the former.

There's also a Marriott across the road from the Doubletree. Not in Del Mar, actually, in San Diego in Carmel Valley, although a lot of the businesses there like to say they're in Del Mar.

Thanks for these great suggestions. One final question -- how bad do you think the traffic will be from the UCSD area to the airport on Monday morning?

It should take about 30 minutes to get from UCSD to SD Airport..
Keep us posted on what Hotel you choose..
I went on Expedia for October didn't know your dates but most of the Hotels I suggested came up around $200 a night for 4 star Hotels except the La V..Estancia came up at $205 night and that is a couple blocks from UCSD and lovely..

The Estancia would be the most convenient for your conference. It's right across the road from UCSD.

The Estancia looks really pretty to boot! Quite nice and laid back atmosphere on their grounds.

I was aware that the Doubletree's location is not Del Mar proper. However, that's how they label the hotel (and the Marriott, too, I believe), so I thought I'd not split hairs in order to avoid confusion.
