San Diego/La Jolla Hotel with Kitchenettes?

Will be coming to San Diego area in August with our toddler, and we'd like to find a residence-inn type of hotel with a small kitchenette, maybe even a junior suite with a living room separate from the bedroom.

Any recommendations?

Would prefer to be in a desirable neighborhood, on or close to the beach.

I've heard La Jolla is much swankier than San Diego, but are there other nearby cities we shold consider?

Someplace with nice grounds, or near a park, or walking to great restaurants are pluses.

We'll have a car to get to the zoo and other sites we want to see.

Thanks,
Kat

I do know that the Holiday Inn Express in La Jolla have suites with kitchenettes and living room separate from bedroom. Friends of mine stayed there last summer and enjoyed it. The rooms were tired-looking but clean. Parking was free and they had self-laundry facilities. It's about 1-2 miles from downtown La Jolla, but I believe Wind-N-Sea beach is just a couple blocks away.

Hope that helps.

Take a look at:

The Beach Cottages,
4255 Ocean Blvd,
San Diego (in Pacific Beach)

Capri Beach Condos
4767 Ocean Blvd
SD (also Pacific Beach)

Best Western Island Palms Hotel & Marina
Shelter Island (not on or particularly close to a beach)

La Jolla Cove Suites
www.lajollacove.com

You might also consider Del Mar. La Jolla is actually in San Diego.

Don't know what your budget is, but the La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club has suites with full (albeit small) kitchens, and living areas separate from sleeping areas. www.ljbtc.com. The La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club, and its affiliated Sea Lodge (access through same website) are directly on the beach. The rooms are not the swankiest, but the setting is quite spectacular and, if you're into tennis, it's the best tennis resort I've played at (comparing to Kiawah, Hilton Head, etc.).

i thought of the capri suites as mentioned above. the one downside is the pool that they have access to is about 1/2 block away. but, great location right on the beach with plenty of family restaurants around.
there are also plenty of condo's for rent along mission beach. but, you wouldn't havea pool.

We had a nice suite in the Bahia Hotel in Mission bay- full kitchen. Not a luxery hotel but very resorty, on the bay, and close to the beach with an amusement park. Close to all attractions. Check out their website
