San Diego in September
Hello All,
In the beginning of September, my girlfriend and I are going to be in California for a wedding and we would like to spend the rest of our time, 4 days, in San Diego. Some things we would like to do are: see the San Diego Zoo, Sea World, hang at the beach, see some sights etc… We are very active and do not mind being on the go. With that, could someone recommend an area of SD to stay in? Is a rental car needed or is public transportation reliable? Any recommendations on great places to see or activities are welcomed. Same goes for restaurants. Thanks! |

September is one of my favorite months in San Diego. I would stay in the gas lamp -
one thing you can do is take the ferry over to Coronado -rent bikes and explore the beach there... Lots to do! The zoo is fabulous.. We like to ride the double decker bus & sit on the top - better views- Go to a padre game - one of my favorite ballparks is Petco. |
Hi nmb79 !
The best places to stay if you don't want to rent a car are Downtown San Diego where the Gaslamp is, Little Italy (lots of good restaurants), and Old Town (very touristy but it can be more affordable than Downtown.) From those locations both the lightrail Trolley and the Bus service is pretty good to get around. http://www.sdmts.com/home1.asp?from=mobile Also, lots of taxis around that you can hail from the street. |
Thanks for all the feedback.
Is Downtown the same as Gaslamp? |

I should have also said, we were there in May and used only public transit - bus and trolley. Worked great and saved a lot because parking a rental and the actual rental adds up.
We took bus to Balboa Park/Zoo; to and from Airport. We used trolley to get to Old Town. We got a great deal at Palomar in Gas Lamp. |
If we are interested in beng near the beach, is it better to stay near one of the beaches or La Jolla?
Also, can anyone recommend a surfing company for lessons? |
