San Diego Hotels

Searching for an upscale hotel in/around San Diego for 12/27 - 12/30. Looking to spend $200 per night. Any suggestions?

We don't usually stay at $200 a night places, but of all the motels we've stayed in San Diego, we far preferred the Best Western Hacienda Hotel-Old Town. The room was quiet and large with high ceilings, and the location near Old Town was delightful. The AAA guide lists rates at $115-215, but we got a very reasonable walk-in "manager's special."

You might want to try L' Auberge Del Mar in Del Mar, which I think caters to a romance appeal as you (I believe) requested on a former post.
This might be slightly more expensive, though.
Worth another shot would be the Westgate in downtown S.D.

I checked the Hotel Del Coronado for you as sometimes they have good specials, but they're pretty much booked. It looks like Loews Resort on Coronado (almost as nice as the Hotel Del) still has rooms. Also check out the Hyatt and Marriott downtown. Are you in town for the Holiday Bowl? I've heard it can be tough getting reservations around then so don't dawdle...

If you're referring to the rooms specifically, Loews' Coronado is not "almost as nice as the Del". It's nicer.
The rooms at the Del are its weakest point. The location and public areas and history are what keep the Del alive.

I plead guilty to not having stayed overnight at any of these hotels. But I am a local and do regularly peruse the public areas, eat at the restaurants, listen to visitors' comments, etc. I like to recommend the Hyatt as they were overwhelmingly accomodating and generous when our church held a fundraiser there earlier this year. The staff was phenomenal!

What exactly do you want to do? San Diego has many different areas that would appeal to different styles and taste.

Be forewarned ... the Holiday Bowl will be going on then so most downtown and Mission Valley hotels will be packed (and charging rack rates).

A nice option is the Sheraton San Diego Marina or the W. We had an awesome stay at the Marina property (stay in the West Tower for the best views.)
