San Diego Hotels
Hi. Going to San Diego in December...looking for advice on areas to stay and hotels. Looking at the Best Western Blue Sea Lodge or Best Western Palms Hotel & Marina. Comments, should I be looking else where?
Thanks
|
I have not heard of either of these two hotels. Where are they located in San Diego?
|
I believe one is on Shelter Island, I am not sure where the other is...
|
Shelter Island (Palms) is a poor location a vacation. It is a the bay side of Point Loma, near many commercail and military harbors. The other location in Pacific Beach is much better. Many things to do within walking distance and/or short drive.

What do you want to do?

I do not know of the hotels personally, but Best Westerns are generally decent.
My husband and I stayed at the Comfort Inn located in Mission Valley. It's off I-8 and you are within 10 minutes of all major attractions. We went in Oct and were upgraded to suite. The hotel and staff treated us great. Have a good time.

The Palms Hotel & Marina is on Shelter Island. if you will have a car, it is quite a nice area, very peaceful, several restaurants nearby. It is not within walking distance of much and there is no beach at all. The Blue Sea Lodge is right on the beach in Pacific Beach.Even though it probably won't be warm enough to bask in the sun, it's still nice to walk on the beach. Lots of restaurants, bars and clubs within walking distance. Easier to get to attractions with or without a car. If you will have a car, you might check about parking at the Blue Sea Lodge.

blue sea lodge is a nice looking hotel from the outside. make sure you get an ocean or partial ocean view. great location for sunsets, walks, rollerblading, etc. the only downside is that at night you can get some "gungy" type people down there but nothing too horrible.
the green flash restaurant is by there - good place to eat.
I loved 'La Pensione' in Little Italy. Voted "Best Boutique Hotel" i think. Rooms are $50-$65. very simple but charming. View them at "www.lapensionehotel.com" My room had a little balcony with french doors which opened in, which i kept open all the time. It is somewhat noisy (the train is nearby) and there is noise in the morning. but if you like to be right in the midst of things and be wakened in the morning by the bells of the nearby catholic church, which i loved... Little Italy itself is a treat. I didn't want to go anywhere else. Be sure and have the grilled sea bass with Mirka and Luiz and Luigi and Vincenzo at 'Vincenzo', just under the hotel. Practice your 'bongiorno's' with Roberto and Armando and Salvatore and Nino at 'Cafe Zuchero' across the street. Have morning coffee with Steve and Caitlin at 'cafe italia'. Buy some flowers for your room from Louisa at the flower shop. There is a charming central open courtyard in the hotel. My room had a refrigerator/microwave/sink, so i bought pelegrino/salami/cheese/wine at the tiny deli across the street, but i never did get to eat it all...the hospitality of the area was just too good. I felt as if I left with ten new friends! I also stayed at the Hilton Gaslamp district, which was a surprise for a 'chain' hotel. my room was on the top floor, and it was excellent. Wonderful linens/down comforter/etc. You can walk the marina, as well as enjoy the gaslamp district. i have stayed in mission bay, but found it to be a bit out of the way. (I just realized I have said "wonderful" about a dozen time! oh well! it was!)

Try the Best Western Inn By The Sea in La Jolla (seems like you wanted a Best Western). Great location in La Jolla and only about 2 blocks from the La Jolla Cove!
