San Diego Hotel Help
Hi. My Family is going to San Diego in June and am looking for a decent hotel with a nice pool area. Any suggestions? Thanks

Can you give an idea of the price range you are looking for?

We liked the Sheraton Suites, on edge of downtown, close to Balboa Park and all that's there, not walking distance to Gaslamp area but a very short drive or cab ride away. Very nice pool, but it is indoors and you don't state if that is what you want. I prefer the inddor pools as no hassles then w/weather problems, sunscreen, etc. One sutie was big enough for me, husband, kids 11 and 13- one slept on the pull out sofa in the second (living) room and other on a rollaway. Like dhaving a fridge and wetbar area and big TV too. Has those new Sheraton goood beds too. And a starbucks in the lobby. Good value.

Would like to keep It under $200/Nite. Also would like an outdoor pool - We are from Wisconsin and are cooped up all winter.

Paradise Point or Humphrey's Half-Moon Inn.

You guys are going to think I'm crazy. I know that there are lots of really nice properties in San Diego; I've stayed at some. But when I travel alone with my son, we love to stay at the Dana Inn and Marina. It is "motelish", but right on a marina with a great view, a kayak/aquacycle/bicycle rental stand, foosball, ping-pong, a pool with bar service. It's become a special place for us! It's also walking distance to Sea World. Have a look at www.danainn.com.

The Holiday Inn Bayside. A nice outside pool area with a nine hole putting course, ping pong, shuffle board, and bicycle rental. They also have a happy hour.

We liked Pacific Terrace:

catamaran has a very nice pool area.

Please be aware of "June Gloom" in San Diego. It's no joke- most days are overcast and can even be a bit chilly at the beach. I would suggest moving your trip to July, August or September.
I lived in San Diego for 8 years, so I don't have a lot of hotel experience, but the Marriot Marina downtown has a fantastic pool, great for kids. Do you want to be near any tourist attractions, like the Zoo, SeaWorld or beach? Paradise Point and The Catamaran are bayside and make good beach choices for people with children. Have fun...and seriously, reconsider June! |
We stayed at the Seaview in LaJolla and I wouldn't recommend it.
The del Coronado looked fabulous (we went inside as well as outside). |
Ack, make that SeaLodge in LaJolla, Seaview is our condo in Florida. Confusing.
