San Diego Hotel for 2 ladies

Anyone have a recommendation for a 3* hotel (under $150) for 2 nights for 2 ladies visiting San Diego for the first time next week? There are so many areas to stay in, which is best? We will have a car but don't want to drive at night.

I don't know if you can get it for under $150 (unless you go to a bargain Web site) but the Wyndham downtown might be a good choice.

From there, you can walk to the waterfront, the gaslight district, Little Italy, the open-air shopping mall and a lot of other restaurants and attractions.

The hotel itself is sort of the typical business hotel, but it's nice -- up-to-date rooms, some with nice views, and a pleasant staff.

One note about the car. You'll pay loads to park at the hotel but you can find some deals at nearby lots and garages.

tell us more - are you in your 20's or 80's? do you want to be active with renting blades or bikes? do you enjoy shopping and galleries? is the beach important to you? are you wanting bars at night?

We are 60 yrs old and want to do the Gaslight district, Seaworld, browsing in cute little shops. No roller blading, nightclubing but some good restaurants. Is Mission Bay nice or Mission Valley?

There is a new hotel in the Gaslight neighborhood. They may have introductory rates. I've forgotten the name of the place.

Mission Bay is near the water; Mission Valley is right by a busy freeway; it is a hotel row & near 2 big shopping centers. Ofcourse, hotels in Mission Valley are much more affordable. It is ~$110/night for a 3* hotel room this coming week period.

I don't know what's happening this coming week that hotels in downtown seem to be high-- above $150/night. Gaslamp quater is in downtown. It may cost you extra for the parking fee.

If you are flexible in driving, Hotwire may be a good choice for the cost. For $142/night, you can get a 4* hotel in Seaworld/Mission Bay area for June 16-19. Based on the ammenities & other tips, my guess is it may be the Hilton Resort @ Mission Bay (right on the bay). The hotel is near Seaworld but would take ~10' to drive to Gaslamp quarter. There is a 3* hotel @$119; I have no idea what hotel it could be. %>)

If you strech your budget up to $160/night + parking fee then Hotwire has a 4* hotel; it is normally the Manchester Grand Hyatt. This hotel is right next to Seaport Village which is a nice walk and has small shops. It is just a short taxi ride for the night out to Gas Lamp district.

Why don't you check out the Best Western Hacienda Suites-Old Town? It always gets good reviews here and is easy walking distance to the shops and restaurants of Old Town. You can easily take a cab to the Gaslamp in the evening and drive to La Jolla, Sea World or wherever during the day.

Check www.biddingfortravel.com and bid on Priceline. You can get great deals and pick the area you want to be in.

old town would be a good place to stay. plenty of restaurants so you don't have to drive at night and as mentioned, a taxi to the downtown area at night would not be outragious.
