San Diego Hotel?
Hi,
We are going to San Diego in July. I am not sure exactly where to stay. As of now, I have Loews on Cornado booked. I have heard mixed reviews of this resort. I have been thinking of switching to W San Diego, but I really think I would prefer being near the beach. I would really like to stay at Hotel Del Cornado, but it's more than I would like to spend. Any other ideas? We like a hotel with a nice pool and good views/balcony. Thanks for your help!

I don't know what the current rates are for Hotel Del Coronado, but it is worth the splurge. It's really a beautiful hotel on a very nice stretch of beach...Don't know much about the Loews or the W...W hotels are usually nice in any city.

We recently stayed at the Marriot Coronado and were pleased with our stay. Although it doesn't have the charm of the Del, it is a nice hotel and the location is good. The hotel has all the standard amenities you would expect from a Marriot resort-style hotel. The hotel is on the bay side of Coronado, facing downtown, and the views of the downtown skyline and the bridge are really nice. The rooms have nice-sized balconies and the ones facing the water have a view of the bay and downtown and of the pool. Since the hotel is on the bay side, it is close to the water taxi to downtown, but it is on the opposite side of the island from the ocean and the beaches - so that is a trade off. The pool area is nice and it overlooks the bay as well.

The W is in the middle of downtown. A very different kind of place from the Del or anywhere on Coronado. What are you looking for? Do you have kids? Do you want a beach vacation or a city vacation? How long are you going to stay?

Hi,
We are starting our vacation in Santa Monica, then going to Dana Point and then to San Diego and finally to Las Vegas. Right now I am planning 2-3 nights in San Diego. We don't have kids and we just really want to check out the city, go to the zoo and go to the pool/beach.

Do you want upscale or fun and funky? Coronado is a great location. Also La Jolla. You can walk around the village to shop and eat. I think downtown is fun, especially since the built Petco Park for the Padres. If you like baseball and are staying down there, I would check out a game there. Also you have the Gaslamp with lots of great restaurants and the Marina and Seaport Village.

I forgot to answer the first question. We would like an upscale hotel, it doesn't have to be funky, but we like a place with a good atmosphere. I am Loews member and have Starwood points, so I like to use these "perks" when I can, if possible.
